Thread: Caesars cheaping out on Great Gift Wrap Up points?

  1. #1
So I never really bothered to figure out the formula for the Great Gift Wrap Up.

I had about 330,000 points in 2012, which translated into about $1100.

I had earned about 140k tier points in 2012. I participated in a few Great Gift Wrap Up bonus events but not enough to significantly affect my point earnings. I also earned all tiers the "old fashioned way" -- without bonus tiers which were invented in 2013.

This year I also participated in a few bonus events. I have earned 122k tier points so far, but only about 41k worth of "regular" tier points, with the other 81k being of the bonus variety.

I currently have 222k worth of GGWU points.

Now, that by itself isn't alarming, but I had something like 207k when I had just 78k tier points (and only about 26k worth of regular play).

So I wondered, why am I earning GGWU points so much slower?

I went to their site and read this:

    4. How do I earn Gift Points?
Use your Total Rewards card every time you play! For every 1 Reward Credit you earn through casino play at the tables, slots or race & sports book, you'll also get approximately 1 Gift Point. In fact, there may be special promotional days where you receive double Gift Points! Remember, Gift Points are only earned based on play at participating casinos.
So basically since I earned 15,000 RCs, I get 15,000 GGWU points, which is worth just $50! Weak!

    Now here's what confuses me.

Let's look at my GGWU points versus my RCs earned prior to this recent play:

I had earned about 26,000 RCs, but I had 207,000 GGWU points!
Since then, I earned 15,000 RCs, but only got 15,000 more GGWU points!

So how did I get so many extra points? I did do some events, but it doesn't account for this huge difference.

I have a feeling that they lowered the "base" earning of GGWU points at some point this year.

Like maybe you went from earning 3 GGWU points per RC to 1 per RC, or something like that.

    Anyone know?

I know a couple of years ago - for every tier point you earned - you got 7 points of GGWU points when you played at Nevada casinos. I am not sure what it was last year - I think 1 to 1 like it is this year. From what I understand bonus tier points do not count.

The only reason I had as many GGWU points as I did last year was because I went to several bonus events in Vegas. This year only 1 where I got 45K bonus points.

I guess you and Alan get some bonus points for playing at Rincon when they have certain bonus events.

But - the nice thing about this -is when you use those GGWU points they do not take them off of your reward credits. So - it is a nice bonus if you can make it to the event in Vegas. Just a really good extra -even though not as much as some past years.

I am confused now. I thought that the GGWU points reflected your TIER POINTS and not Reward Credits??? It was also my understanding that the GGWU points were based on the actual "played" tier points and not the "bonus points" for reaching certain thresholds. Is the website quote that Dan posted in error?

I don't know what it is but do keep in mind that this is a loyalty program. Earning these points makes you come back to the casinos and spend more. Whatever you get out of it, it's "free", an added bonus. There's really not much you can do when casinos weaken their loyalty program, but spend less money there. Somehow most people don't let their money do the talking for them.

I was platinum at Mlife and dropped back to pearl. They dropped the benefits for their Mlife program, I reduced the amount of money I spend there. Result: higher offers than before to get me back in.

In Holland, at Holland Casino, there is no such thing as a loyalty program. They only take and take and take. In 2008 Vegas was drowning me in offers. The Vegas economy has improved the last 2 years and as a results air fare has gone up significantly, Mlife and CET have changed the rules of their players clubs (now you need to spend twice as much for the same benefits), and freeplay and comp offers are way down. So my point is, let your money talk until the situation changes.

Ironically, I had more GGWU points this year with less play. Yes, my tier score is higher this year but that's because of the bonuses. And my GGWU points were boosted by (I figure) about 120,000 by the bonuses at Rincon. I also think that I got more for my GGWU points this year because the price of Shell gas cards was reduced. So I can't complain.
