Thread: Craps Run

  1. #1
My friend, AV, just had a personal best craps run at Paris this week. He held the dice for somewhere between 50 and 55 minutes and pressed his initial $25 wagers into a +$9500 session. He is not necessarily a believer in dice control, but he uses the concept.

Rob would have been proud, as he walked with almost all of it after the week was finished.

AV then went down to the Cal to see the listings of "Golden Arm" runs.

I always like to hear about big wins at a craps table because they are so rare. Tell more, please. How many fire points were hit? How was he pressing? And the question I am really interested in -- how much was left on the table when the 7 finally came?

I don't know the game very well, but AV didn't use the fire bet himself. Someone else, however, did. I think four were hit and the guy was going for number five with a small -- $5 or $10 -- wager. I think five would have paid a thousand to one or something -- is that correct? There was more than 1K on the table when the 7 came in.

When AV started, just he and another guy were at the table. When he finished, it was three deep all around.

Here's how the works at the Caesars properties:

Make four different points and it pays 25 to one.
Make five different points and it pays 250 to one.
Make all six points (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 10... that's points not hitting the numbers) and it pays 1,000 to one.

Max bet is $10 so max bet is $10,000. Only once I was at a table when all six were made, but at the time the max bet was $5 for a $5,000 pay.
I have been at a table when 5 points were made at least six times, including two times that I was the shooter.
I have been at a table when 4 points were made probably a dozen times. It is rare to even make 4 different points.

I should note that what makes hitting the fire point so difficult is that "different points" must be hit. I was once at a table when the shooter made at least 15 passes... but he was hitting 6s and 8s over and over again, as well as come out passes.

Those were "sightseers" right? I don't know of any casino that allows more than perhaps 14 players at a table, and certainly no double row of players.

They were sightseers. I think he must have hit five then, and the guy was hoping for six. AV hit a bunch of fours during the streak. When AV returned the next day, the pit boss said that they'd moved his table and pointed to a different location. I thought he was joking, but I guess he wasn't. Casinos actually do that?

I've never heard of a casino moving a table just to "throw off" a shooter, but casinos do rearrange tables and game locations.

Caesars, for example, used to have three or four craps tables in the Forum casino -- and then about five years ago they were removed. The layout of the tables in the Caesars Palace Casino (the main casino under the dome) has been changed by adding a table and moving the other tables closer together.

Okay, that makes sense, then. The cowboys had just left town, and I assume they play a lot of craps, so the rearranging tables would have been to get back to non-rodeo layout. I thought it was pretty wild if they swapped tables just because of one run.

Here are some other possibilities: more slots are being added, maybe they are taking out Texas Hold'em or 3 Card Poker tables?
