Thread: Valley View Casino Remodel?

  1. #1
Just received our January offers from Valley View. It mentions remodeling the casino from January 6-16 with a Grand Opening on the 17th. Anyone heard what they are doing?

Wow!! That must be quite a remodel. ten days ...lol

I ask my host what is going to be changed and he said the following:

"Everything the floor layout chairs carpet vip lounge set up, players card buffet is getting bigger huge Vegas sign out front"

Don't know if they need the sign, personally I like the Rain dance statue or whatever that is out front but it's their money. Now if they could give a VP paytable closer to the 99.92% that Barona has, we would really be talking.

I guess they need to compete with Harrah's remodel. They are looking a little run down. A larger buffet would be nice. Think of all the money they loose when all those people are standing in line when they could be gambling.

I guess if they had one thing they really had to fix, it was their players card model. I couldn't think of any other casino that made it so difficult to find out information on tier levels and the point structure. Yeah and 2 hour lines at the buffet just isn't practical.

I for one think the Harrah's remodel might be counterproductive. When the new tower opens, and when the convention center is hosting events, Harrah's Rincon might be too crowded and too busy.

What I first liked about Rincon was that it was relatively small and quiet -- unlike Pechanga where I used to play. The Rincon expansion will make Rincon the biggest hotel in San Diego (if not Southern Cal) and that convention center can also be the site for things such as weddings which could bring in more daily traffic. I know that the casino is also being expanded but I don't think the casino expansion will keep the casino-to-guests ratio the same.

Even now on Saturday nights the casino is very crowded, and the new hotel wing isn't open, nor is the convention center.

At tbe same time I hear very good things about Valley View including some positive expectation video poker.

Valley View could be looking to capture some of Harrah's crowd if Harrah's is overcrowded. It will be interesting to see if Harrah's begins offering more free room offers to fill up the empty ones. Any hotel that brings more people to the area is good for all those area casino's.

I'm glad VV is updating it's players club. It was always confusing to me, but they seem quick to adjust their offers depending on my previous months play. I can tell when I've had a good day there, winning and thus more coin in, the Moreplay offers increase. In a month when I suck, and quit early while I'm behind, the next offers go down.

The Rincon hotel gets oversold now, but once the new tower is built which literally doubles its size, I doubt there will be many sold out nights.

I haven't been to VV, but it might become a nice alternative to the big hotel/casino that Rincon is destined to become.

Yeah just like was mentioned in the beginning, not that anyone comes to Rincon Row for Valley View only but they are going to be totally close down the 6th-16th. I thought maybe it would be a partial opening but nope looks like a total shutdown. Guess we'll have to see how it is afterwards.

I got a call this morning that the casino is tightening slots and video poker to pay down its debt. No wonder the whole place is shut down.

Was that from someone inside the casino? I was just trying shoot the breeze with the host I know about what he would be doing for the 10 days that the casino is closed and he never replied. This was someone that would answer something within the hour before. Hopefully they aren't cutting workers as well.

Perdition: word about them cutting the pay tables and the return on slots came from a regular player there. I cannot tell you if it is true or not. But when the casino reopens let us know what you see.

I got a hold of the host, he said it wasn't true at all but then again he just got 10 paid days off from the casino so I don't know if he would admit to them doing something negative or not.

He just said they aren't planned to be tightened or set lower and that they don't "want to go below minimum payouts" which is an answer but not really. They probably got another 5-12% leeway on most games. Guess we'll find out for sure on the 17th.

I think the minimum payout in Nevada is 75% and IGT requires every casino to meet Nevada's requirements. So my GUESS is that the minimum return on slots and video poker in California is also 75%. However, with video poker it is easy to see by checking the pay table.

The player who called me told that VV was planning on removing the above 100% video poker games which are variations of Deuces Wild. He also told me that other games would be downgraded. Again, I can't confirm any of this as it just came from him.

Did VV ever have 100%+ VP? I remember when I walked the floor I didn't see any and vpfree has always listed the highest game as 99.79% DB. Maybe there was an AP people were keeping under wraps or they are factoring in cashback + comps or other things.

I could totally see it happening though if they are as deep in debt as the player said. You figure with Harrah's right up the road offering worse and worse options for VP, they would keep it high in hopes they could snag a few dissenters.

Went to Valley View on Sunday and when I checked in at the Players Club, they informed us the casino would close at midnight. (There's a phrase you don't hear everyday, or really... ever!) I asked what they were changing and they said new carpet, completely new layout, the buffet, and more.

Their website and Facebook have a countdown on it, but the main part of the website hasn't changed. I tried to book a room for kicks and it says one of the dates I selected is closed. I'm assuming they shut down the entire hotel? It would make sense if they are working 24 hours/day to get that casino back open, the noise would irritate the guests to no end.

As for changing payouts, from what I understand of slot/video poker machines, they can't just 'change' the payout on a whim. It takes replacing a chip inside the machine. I know in Nevada, that is all regulated. Not sure about California. Unless they are getting all new machines, I doubt they are changing the payout. I wouldn't be surprised if they reduce their free buffet's though. We play once a month for 3-4 hours and always qualify for the free buffet.

We probably won't go again until February, but I'm curious to see what the changes bring.

jbatdorf you are correct that changing the chip inside machines is not quick and easy... except with the new server based machines and wouldn't that be a hoot if VV becomes the first California casino to have them? I usually keep close tabs on who has server based machines and I have heard NOTHING about VV getting them.

However, shutting down the casino for so many days would give them the opportunity to go machine to machine to change out the chips.

I think the bottom line is that when the casino reopens someone will have to see if the machines and paytables have changed.

    thanks for the update.

Anyone go to Valley View today to see the remodel? One of the first comments from their Facebook page is the new cash out machines don't get coin, only bills then a .46 cent coupon (or what change there is) which you have to take to the cashier to cash out if you want it.

One review on Yelp said new chairs, carpet, a splash of paint here and there, and that's it. Don't expect much. I guess you really can't do that much in 10 days.
