Thread: Good Luck to Regnis at the NHC!

  1. #1
The NHC started a few hours ago. A couple of my friends are in it -- it looks as if many people saved their selections for the final races of the day, as the scoring is modest. The guy with a shot at a 2 million bonus is sitting in 200-something early.

Thanks red, unfortunately I sucked all day, every decision I made was bad, passed winners and bet losers, was plenty of value all day but I didn't connect, Essentially have to go bombs away tomorrow,

    Oh well--consolation tourney on Sunday,

Drinks are still on me after the contest if anyone is around. Will be at Caesars after contest late Sunday and Monday. I'm not a Caesars fan --- or at least not a fan of the total rewards etc but the free room is still a nice perk for someone who hardly plays in casino anymore. I honestly didn't check if I had any other offers as I just want the room for a couple days relax after contest.

None of my friends did much Day One -- and scoring wound up being quite high. They were in good position midway, but lost ground late in the day. Interestingly, the people chosen to be on that Esquire TV show were all contenders early, also, but didn't get much done later in the day. So they are all in trouble.

Keep your wits about you, regnis, and best of luck.

You won't hear from many around here when you refuse to say you're fascinated by, enamored with, or completely addicted to Total Rewards. But after your event is over, head down to the Silverton and put the hurt on their SDBP vp machines like I used to do, as a consolation prize.

Robbie, Robbieboy, Bubbaaaaaaaaa, this thread is not about you. Live with it and leave it alone. It's not about Total Rewards and it's not about CET and so it's NOT ABOUT YOU!

Reg, good luck at the tournament. I hope you do well even though the first day didn't go too well.

Drunk again? And at this time of the day? You really should seek some help Bubba, you're lacking good insulting material. You're losing "your edge" (since we're talking in gambling terms).

Is "deuce" a dyslexic spelling of "dunce"? Like "unclear" and "nuclear"?

Whatever it is, he didn't like it

Oh Rob oh Rob, I don't care how drunk you get
There's just a couple of things I'll suggest you don't do when you're drunk:
    - post on this forum because you don't make sense
    - drive that big RV, wouldn't want any innocent pedestrians to get killed
    - hit your wife, kick your dog
    - gamble as much as you do, you could go bancrupt again
    - get into fights with your neighbors at the trailer park. Chances are they're just as drunk as you and they might shoot you before you get the chance to shoot them

But by all means continue the show!

Regnis, I was informed that one person at the final table was a bit of an, ummm, beard, shall we say. Are there any rules for receiving text messages or consulting others once one is at the final table? I suspect not. But if this particular person had won, well, the interviews would have been interesting, to say the least.

Interesting red--there was previously a rule that you could not use cell phone and non-participants were not allowed in the room. That all seems to have fallen by the wayside. One of my friends kept texting me with his suggestions--which I refused to look at because one thing I have learned playing horses for almost 50 years is that the "INFO" is usually no good, even when given to me directly from a trainer.

I wound up having a pretty good second day and with 3 to go I was just off the final 50. My last 3 all ran second and I fell short. My mistake was really the first day where I passed several good winners early in trying to be patient or cautious. As it turns out, even if I would have made the final fifty, I would have done poorly on Sunday. Just like you have 16 games to analyze and bet a couple, I would have had about 27 races to choose from on Sunday. When I went thru them, there was not one I would have bet. So if I would have made it to Sunday, I just would have been throwing hail marys.

Not sure if I will try to participate again this year. While it is fun and meet a lot of good people, the time and expense to do it right is a big factor. But I'm sure in a few weeks I'll be itchin to go.

There actually are a lot of people who have entries in their wives' names, including 2 at my table. Nicest guys you'll ever meet but it is illegal. Rules clearly state that you have to make your own bets. You can't even have someone run your bet up if your lazy or busy or whatever. That is something I feel they should change as these guys had 2 entries in their names and 2 in their wives' names. You can cover a lot of long shots with 4 entries. There are also some well known groups where husband, wife, and son all have multiple entries, but they seem to at least all be present. The guys at my table didn't even fake it--wives weren't there.

I wondered what they would do if a wife's entry made the final table.

There are always going to be a lot of issues like these. All I can do is try to pick winners and not worry about the inequities. If I pick more winners, all that stuff won't matter.

Exactly, regnis. One of my friends/acquaintances' female siblings made the final table. It was unlikely to not have been a team effort, which is illegal.

I figured they would toss the rules out -- that's not right. It should be like poker -- no phones, no rail commentary.

Actually the WSOP Final Tables have changed a lot in that regard.

I made the final table at the $5000 Limit Holdem event in 2013. I ended up finishing 5th.

You were not allowed to have your phone on, but you WERE allowed to get up and talk to the rail! They were broadcasting ALL HOLE CARDS on a 15-minute-delay, so everyone kept getting up to ask their friends on the rail what everyone else had in prior hands. I admit that I did this too, because if I didn't, I would have been at a disadvantage (as my opponents would know what I had, but not vice-versa!) Keep in mind that this was NOT against the rules. You were welcome to ask people on the rail what they saw on the streaming video, you just couldn't watch it yourself!

I really wish they just did away with the 15-minute-delay holecards. Just messes up the integrity of the final table.

Geez, Dan, I would never want to have to deal with that. Not only do you have to recover from the last hand, you have to evaluate and interpret a hand 15 minutes ago. Yowza, that is a trick unto itself! That would twist my brain into a pretzel.
