Thread: So I've been to Harrah's in Cherokee, Now my wife and I are going to Vegas for a week

  1. #1
Hello all, I have been lurking here reading for a bit and decided to register. I am under 30, and have been playing in casinos for about five years. I am a Gold status and have never had any money to be better than gold.

This year, I want this to change. I have a better budget, and I have already started the process. What I mean is, I have a week, Mon-Sat booked, comp'd in full, at Harrahs Vegas. So Im only out travel and food and play so far, I am working on very cheap flights (member of flight clubs) also.

I would like to achieve higher tier status and want to do so as easily as possible with as little loss (or great profit should luck come my way) as possible during my week in Vegas. However, if not achieved in full, I can return to Cherokee later in the year to finish what I started ( since its only a couple hours away ).

The reason I would like to get the best tier as possible is, my wife and I hardly ever get to get out, when we do, it's usually to where we can afford, which is in hand comp'd rooms at a casino in NJ, NC, etc. This year, Vegas!!! We usually only get 25-50$ free play and $10-20 meal. We use that and maybe $100 each in the casino and then spend the rest of our days in town finding fun stuff to do.

I want to hit higher tier for myself or my wife, so we can get better bonuses and enjoy our trips even more. My budget is only higher this trip due to a one time lump kind of payment. So I want to get the most out of it as I can. I will be frugal obviously, but I want to use it to begin to get better deals.

    Any advice?

May I offer several comments and questions.

CET is on shaky ground these days. Are you sure you want to get in and stay in bed with them at a higher level?

Cherokee is not the crown jewel in the CET system. Although there's been several upgrades to that property in the past few years, there's been consistent reporting issues with them and their games are not on par with the rest of the properties.

You're getting a one time lump sum payment from somewhere. You also are young and do not seem to have a lot of disposable cash other than this lump sum. I advise not to waste it in a casino just to get to some higher tier.

That week of comped room at Harrahs LV is curious. CET very typically does not comp a week's worth of rooms at any one property, especially Harrahs LV, even to 7-Stars members. How did you receive this as a Gold member?

#1 Why not get a better tier? The free play and comps will be fun.

#2 yes, I am young, but I have a financial advisor that will be working with my funds from now on. The LV trip is a "3 years later" honeymoon that my wife and I never got, we are also going to see a Tattoo cover up professional while there for her to cover a mistake years ago.

#3 I combined my TR and my wifes TR for the week, they gave me all but fri, and used her tr for fri. We could have stayed for sat & sun also, but I declined. Here are pics of the non-descript parts of the reservations.

Also, it's not just to get some higher tier, its for much more, but why not have that as a goal that could potentially occur with $1-2k invested but not necessarily lost?

If you invest $1k-$2k you won't get any significant offers, and if you do, they will last a very short time.

CET is cutting down big time on their offers now. Your plan might have worked well a few years ago, or even as recently as 2012, but you're a bit late on the play for comps bandwagon.

    Sorry.

As nearthetop said, you really should save your lump payment. People love to talk about "investments", but those always come with risk. I'm not saying you shouldn't invest, but at the same time be wise with the rest of your savings and don't expect your investments to take care of you.

Harrah's Cherokee is a lovely property, but I don't recommend gambling there, and unless some special offers or promos pop there, I'd pursue tier-climbing elsewhere. Cherokee has some issues that I would not go into on a public forum.

Anyway, the property itself is very nice and gets some good entertainment. Alicia Keys was there recently, and Billy Idol rocked to a packed house when I saw him last year. Enjoy the property; skip the gaming.

I can only wish you the best, because you are going at this all wrong. I find myself agreeing with what almost everyone is saying....and I'm not even supposed to be here.

Rob Singer... you are welcome here. Your "vacation" was for only one week. Welcome back.

Aceofhearts... welcome and thanks for joining and posting. You are going about it the wrong way. The number one rule is never to play for comps and that is what you want to do -- play for comps.

What you should do is play the best games, the best way possible and take advantage of the comps that come your way for playing the best games and the best way possible.

Reaching 7Stars even with a full pay video poker game such as 9/6 Jacks or Better could still cost you close to $8,000. I was very lucky in the first two months of this year and managed to score more than 150,000 tier points with a profit because of an $8,000 royal and some other big wins -- but you can't bank on luck.

I urge you to take a different tact -- enjoy your Vegas trip, play within your set budget, play the best games, play the best way your can, and be sure you get all of the comps and offers you are entitled to. Do not play to score comps or tier points.

    Thanks again for joining us.
