Thread: Total Rewards Catalog

  1. #1
If anyone eats at Morton’s or any Landry’s restaurants the $100 Gift Card on the TR website is only 10,000 RCs. All other Gift Cards are double.

I will see if they honor this weekend at Planet Hollywood.

Has anyone ever purchased anything using the catalog?

I think you just go to the Total Rewards Desk and they order for you.

I've used the catalogue to order things such as a Garmin and gift cards. There is a "standard" catalogue and a "monthly specials" catalogue with discounted prices. The monthly specials catalogue is issued quarterly so you can look ahead to see what will be going "on sale."

Keep in mind that prices on some things are "too high" -- similar to what you might experience at the Great Gift Wrap Up. You might be better off exchanging your reward credits for free play.

I have never purchased anything from the catalog and I still haven't picked my Seven Stars appreciation gift for 2014. I wish they would offer free play in lieu of the gift.

    Nice tip.

LOL @ buying $50 gift cards for $100 worth of RCs for the other cards, though. Pretty nervy for them to charge that.

So what would make you happy? A $50 gift card for only $5 of reward credits perhaps? Sometimes you expect way too much.

    No, just parity.

$50 gift card for $50 in RCs.

Caesars gets those cards at a discount anyway. I know for a fact that Home Depot sells its cards at a substantial markdown to companies buying then in bulk. That's why you see Home Depot cards available for "rewards" so often.

Do you really think you can have parity with an outside business? I stand by my original statement. Sometimes you expect way too much.

They are doing exactly that right now -- parity with an outside business. Except they're only doing it for the Landry's card (which is also good at Morton's and a few other places I've never heard of.)

I don't know why you think I'm asking too much if they are doing it right now with one of the cards!

The reason they can do this at parity is because they get the gift cards cheaper than face value.

They are just charging double because they feel they can get people to pay it, because too many people don't see RCs as having a real "value" like you and I do.

So, they have a special deal with Landry's. It's like a "loss leader." That doesn't mean they have to do it with everyone else. It also doesn't mean they have to give away the store.

Like you, I would like better comps. I would like better video poker tables. I would like to return to the days when I got $2,500 of free play on each visit. But you have to face reality.

To paraphrase Lee Iaccoca... if you can find a better players club, use it.

But it's not a loss leader. They are still making a little bit of money on the Landry's card.

Look, I would understand if they weren't at parity (though honestly they should be), but charging double is just awful.

They can do what they want, of course, but I find these extreme markups obnoxious, and they are targeting people who don't see RCs as having actual value.

I think this is a mistake, as such nickel and dining just gets people angry.

Caesars is already making money on the gaming, and awarding a measly 0.1 cents for every dollar wagered. They can afford to let people spend their RCs at or near parity in these situations.

Overall I still think TR is the best rewards program, but only once you get to the Seven Stars level, thanks to the guaranteed perks. That doesn't mean I can't still complain about needless nickel and diming.

Dan, think about it this way: Caesars Total Rewards as it stands today is the best you are ever going to get. This company is on the verge of falling off the cliff. And I think it's a good bet that after the next reorganization you're not going to see the same level of benefits that you see today. We've seen an erosion of benefits over the last ten years and it's only going to be worse in the future. The free play promotions aren't what they used to be; the hotel offers aren't what they used to be; even the last big giveaway -- the Great Gift Wrap Up -- isn't what it used to be.

All I can say is this: you can't fight city hall and you can't fight the casino bean counters.

I agree with all of this.

    BUT

I think things like this (the overcharging for RC redemption in some cases) is self defeating.

    I don't think it's a smart business decision.

If I were in charge of Caesar's, I would stop this nickel and dime crap, and focus on attracting the profitable customers while pushing out the grinders and those that work the system.

Seven Stars has an inherent flaw from the casino's perspective in that a lot of benefits are guaranteed even when play stops, and even when the customer gets there though relatively low cost means.

At the same time, they under-reward pit players who drop a lot at blackjack and play poorly.

With all the tracking and number-crunching available these days, they should have the ability to better take care of the profitable customers while pushing out the grinders.

However, they are too out to lunch and soon it is going to be too late.

Let me agree with you on one thing: no one ever said any of this was a "smart business decision."

The $100 Landry’s Gift Cards for $100 of RCs was in fact a typo on the website.

I was able to purchase 10 of the gift cards at 10,000 RCs each because I had a printout of the website price.

They have since fixed the price on the website to 20,000 RCs.

I still think it is funny that I can buy Golden Nugget (Landry’s) gift cards from CET.

Landry's is a national, independent company, so why wouldn't they sell them through CET? I am sure they can be used at any Landry's restaurant.

  16. #16
I understand why Landry’s would let CET sell/give away their cards.

Why is CET giving cards that can be used at a competing casino?

Perhaps it's something they just "have to live with." There are Landry's restaurants all over, even here in LA. Just like there are Ruth Cris restaurants all over including the one at Harrah's. And there are Starbucks all over. I don't think the Landry's at the GN is an issue for CET.
