Thread: Belt tightening or bug? 800 # and online system don't offer some comps for 7 Stars

  1. #1
I noticed recently when trying to make reservations online that I could not get comped rooms.

This is despite the fact that:

    1) I am 7 Stars
    2) I wanted to make a reservation way in advance
    3) It was not a high-end property
    4) It was not a particularly high-demand date

It came up with a rate BOTH online and at the CCS (800 number). They wanted to connect me to a host, but I talked them into getting a supervisor involved and getting it through. They admitted that it was "weird" that it was coming up as a rate instead of comp, and had to override it.

I didn't want to get a host involved, because I am not sure how much I will play on that trip, and I don't want to feel obligated to do so.

Is this a bug in the system, or a change in policy to where they are making it harder for 7 Stars to claim their comped rooms?

I haven't played much this year at all, so perhaps that's the reason this is happening.

Pretty weak that they are not making this more automated like it used to be. I know that your 7 Stars rooms technically aren't "guaranteed" anymore, but I haven't heard of anyone being turned down for a comp room yet if they are 7 Star, provided they have been checked out for minimum 48 hours since their last reservation.

I had similar issues getting a room comped on Rincon's website back in February with well over 48 hours advance notice. I have to text my host but being that she only works Thurs - Sun, she doesn't always answer me back right away so I just call the
hotel and they connect me with the host on duty and now I don't have any problems.

I do know if you already have a reservation booked, the website will not allow you to make another reservation for a different date.

Like you, I had problems with the Rincon in the past with the website.

However, all other properties worked just fine when it came to comp Seven Stars bookings.

Now I'm seeing no comps at any of the properties I've tried, even months out on dates that aren't particularly popular.

The website isn't refusing to book me, but is just refusing to book it comp.

I've never had a problem using the toll free number to book a room for three or four nights, and sometimes not even 48 hours in advance. There were few "high occupancy" periods (concerts, rodeo, etc.) but they would always either speak to their supervisor and comp it anyways or reserve the room at a nearby property (AC market).

On the TR website, I've always had Saturday rates show up (currently >$200 per day for the next 2 months) and even some Friday and Sunday rates, but central reservations has always been able to override this using a Seven Stars code.

If I try to book online I get a message to call a host.

I have heard some players say they do not like to call their host for reservations or other comps however I think the host is there for just that reason. They are there because of you.

I have known our host in Las Vegas now for over 12 years and she is wonderful. Whenever we are in Las Vegas we try to meet up with her for lunch, dinner or just a snack in the Diamond Lounge. I think it's important if you are going to frequent Caesar's properties and want the comps you are entitled to, establish a comfortable relationship with your host.

This is interesting because I can't make any reservations online. Whenever I tried to book an offer online I get a message (screen) to contact my host. If my host is not available, the operator transfers me to the host on duty. I have never had a problem with a host. In fact a couple of months ago while in the car and driving north on the 15 I called the host's office around 9pm and said "I'm coming in, can I get a room?" And when the host was booking my room he also booked me for a promotion I didn't know about and also got some free play plus reward credits.

I am only low diamond now. If I make res online I get a rate for Saturday and simply have to call (800 number--not my host) and it is waived. Any other days come up comped. Seems odd that seven star would have any problem but it is Caesars.

I don't think it's a "problem." I think they want to be sure that the 7Stars are properly treated and get what they should get. Like that time when I called as I was in the car driving to Vegas... that host (who I did not know) also got me a promotion I didn't know about.

I don't know, Alan. I am not convinced. I think it might be a way to get the hosts better control of their players.

You are a heavy player and in fact don't even stay in hotel rooms that often (only in Vegas, right?)

You do use a lot of your free play, but you also tend to play a lot while doing so.

From what I can tell, you make hosts happy because you don't use more comps than you "earn".

I am a different story. I barely squeak into 150k tiers, stay a ton of nights at various hotels, and use any other comp/perk of any value.

Hosts actually tell me I am "over comped" and will typically give me less than the 800 number will. Why? Because the 800 number sees me as a Seven Star (without seeing any further details), while hosts see me as a guy who plays too little and uses too many comps.

That's not to say that hosts haven't occasionally made good things happen for me, because they have. But for the most part, they aren't exactly looking to do me any favors, and I understand exactly why. For both my sake and the host's sake, I prefer not to waste their time when I don't have to.

In general, if you don't think your recent play will make you look worthwhile to a host, you are best off avoiding them when possible.

Btw, the offers you get have little correlation to your TR level. My wife, a gold member with 95 tier credits, is currently getting better offers than I am.

I do think it's possible in Alan's case that he is flagged as a heavy player and they don't want him booking his own rooms, because they want a host directly responsible for him when he's in town.

You know what the secret is to getting great offers?
Sign up for a TR card and walk into the high limit room. Make ONE $100 bet on a slot machine --and win or lose leave the casino. The CET computers will go bonkers and ID you as a high level player who got called away and went to another casino. BOOM-BAM-POW the offers will come flooding in to your mailbox.

That might work, but it also may depend on more than just that bet. A number of years ago there was an interview with Gary Loveman and one of the things he said they do is accumulate data from sources other than their own. As I recall the example given regarded little old ladies with the outside data allowing them to decide if they were worth "courting" or not. If the data showed they were already spending as much as they could then they wouldn't get much of an investment while a wealthier person would. This is one of the reasons I've never been a Caesars player: using my own habits in their properties to decide what comps I should have was fine, but I wasn't too thrilled to have them obtain data from outside sources on me as well.

I have no idea if they are currently doing anything like this but if they are then someone who has a limited income and a recent bankruptcy might not find that big bet to pay off very well.

Insider at CET gave me a response:

    Todd,

You are seeing rates all over the place because your play does not qualify for a comp room on its own merits. It has to be overridden by a host or a supervisor at the CCS, because you are 7 Star. I am not sure of the exact reason for this, but it is a recent change. The rule of thumb is that you are unlikely to get any extra comps or favors done for you if you are seeing a rate come up for everything you try to book online.

    Alan, that’s funny.

This last Saturday night I was playing $1 3-play at Planet Hollywood on a friend’s card (1000 pts) to keep him at Platinum. Within 10 minutes a host walked up and said “Hi John, I noticed you are staying at Paris and booked on an internet offer. I just wanted to introduce myself and see if I can do anything for you”.

I had no idea they would be triggered that fast as we were at less then 500 pts at the time. I enplaned to the host I was teaching him 3-play. The host still gave my friend his card and said he will book his next trip.

That's inexperience talking. Hosts are only there to keep a better eye on their gamblers, and most are commissioned based on your play. It's their job to make you think they are your "friend at your home away from home", and too many gullible players easily fall into this trap. It is and has always been more lucrative over time for players to book offers based on what's offered online and/what you get in the mail. Talking to a host is one of the biggest errors losing players make, simply because they always find themselves trying to make up for losses with comps that go beyond what they've truly earned.

I made seven stars for the first time ever recently, and everywhere I tried to book on the harrahs site after logging in has shown a comp rate. Of course, I've actually been to and stayed at every harrahs property over the years, which may have something to do with that.

Aaron what you describe with the host walking up is typical. At a casino (which I will not identify) I put my son's card in the machine to download his free play and before I could finish the transaction a host walked up to me and said "Hi Jason, anything I can do for you?"

Anything you can do to eliminate host involvement in your visit or your play is a plus for YOU.....and a minus for the casino. Just 3 days ago I got two calls from a host and a marketing guru at Harrahs New Orleans where I not too long ago put some major hurt on them. Of course they want me to return, but I kinda like this area especially this time of year, and there's plenty of casinos within 50 miles. I'm in no way tied to CET even with all the offers coming in. There are better places to play in my opinion.

We agree. You don't play for comps -- you play where the playing is best. Sure, comps will be part of that formula for "where the playing is best" but you have to carefully evaluate that.

If I am getting a free room at Caesars plus $1,000 of free play but the game is 7/5 Bonus I might value that as a better play than staying at Red Rock where I have to pay for the hotel and get zero free play. But when I get $1,000 free play and elect to use it at craps -- then Caesars wins hands down since the craps game "pays" are no different at other casinos. (I rarely bet higher than 5X odds so a casino offering 10X odds is not a factor for me.)
