Thread: Quickie Trip report at Caesars, Gold Strike in Jean

  1. #1
Tuesday morning I got a phone call from a client in Vegas who wanted a quick meeting... later that day. At the same time -- Caesars had a promotion for $600 of free play plus $400 of Shell gas cards.

There would be no time to drive -- and I wasn't feeling well enough to drive. I've been ill for a couple of weeks with a lingering cough and cold and congestion. So flying was my only option.

I booked a 1:30pm departure from Burbank, called my host, and booked the promotion (it was still available), and she had a limo waiting for me in Vegas at the airport. But next time, she should have paramedics waiting for me. The long walk from the gate to where the limos are could have killed me -- I was just in no shape for that long walk with my small carryon. Thank heaven for the moving sidewalk and I admit I had to take it slow and easy. I don't remember the walk ever being that long... or was it that my congestion was a lot worse than I thought?

Arrived at Caesars and the limos now use the Flamingo side entrance which is right by the 7 Stars check in and the Augustus tower. So I checked in and went to my room... and got ready for my meeting.

And the meeting was cancelled. The client decided to start running the Infomercial in San Francisco -- which is what I wanted -- so there wasn't any reason to meet.

So I picked up my free play and gas cards. I was asked if I wanted the $600/$400 split or I could take it all as free play. I opted for the split -- because at least I would go home with $400 of Shell gas cards. That decision might have pleased the casino Gods because I actually had a winning trip at Caesars.

Took my $600 free play to $1 7/5 Bonus Poker and this machine must have been on a "quads free for all." I ran the money through... and kept winning and kept playing... and when I figured I had "enough" I had about $1300.

So I went to craps... playing at a $10 table. While there weren't any Firebet payoffs I actually won a couple hundred dollars at craps at the first session.

Then went back to VP and then back to craps... and so it went for about 13 hours straight.

When I was done... and exhausted... and coughing up a storm... I had $2,815 that used to belong to CET (according to the win/loss statement that my host checked). But in my wallet I had $3,120 more than I arrived with. I went to my room, ordered room service, watched two movies, took several hot showers hoping they would help clear my chest... and then slept and slept.

I left Wednesday afternoon without going back to the casino with the cash plus the $400 of gas cards.

This marked my eighth trip in a row using only "free play" and leaving the casino with cash.

One pleasant surprise. Instead of using my "Total Rewards Comps" or "reward credits" I used one of my $500 7 Star Experiences gift cards to cover my food charges. The "surprise" is that the "card" works like a regular credit card (it has a MasterCard symbol) and therefore can be used to pay "tips." When you use "comps" or "reward points" you must pay tips with cash. When I checked out at the 7 Stars office I presented the $500 gift card and it paid the tips -- there was no charge made to my credit card on file. Keep this in mind -- it's another reason why the $500 Total Rewards Gift Card is probably the best use of the 7 Stars Experience credits.

I was able to "hitch a ride" by car back to LA. My son was actually in Utah and stopped by Caesars to pick me up.

He had a little gambling itch so we stopped at Gold Strike in Jean where, with $300 in a $5 8/5 Bonus Progressive machine (progressive on the royal was $21,000 plus change), he hit quad aces for $2,000 with $100 remaining in credits. Nice hit.

After the handpay, the floor person inserted five $5 coins into the machine and hit the deal button and then said to Jason "go ahead, finish the hand." He hit a paying pair. He played a little more and cashed out $200. Then he got $70 worth of gas from comps plus some "cash back" worth about $25 (earned from previous trips).

We didn't realize till recently that Gold Strike actually has a very attractive gas comp and cash back program. I've used $50 of the $120 of gas comps I accumulated. Jason has used his gas comps several times over the past year and still has $60 on account.

Alan: It's good to see that you're actively exploring other casinos outside the CET chain. Considering how sick you were, what your client did would have annoyed the hell out of me.

Congrats on another really good trip. If the client had cancelled and you wound up getting sicker, that would have been awful. Rest up.

I see the good side of this story, but I'm sorry, what I mostly see is someone so desperate to get some gambling action in that they have put it before even their health. Alan, if I understand, you're one of the last people who should be gambling with their health. Money won or lost is irrelevant. This trip made no sense, let alone the 13+ hours of frenzied gambling. I'm willing to bet that if that client wanted to meet you in Phoenix, you would have said you were too sick to go. Are you seeing this? And from the way you told it, the SF filming HAD to have been known about far sooner that just after you arrived into LV.

Please don't do anything like this again. I need not remind you of what "losing one's way" to casino activity has done to a certain someone's life here. Next time, let it go.

Rob, have you really lost it as badly as it appears? Now you are questioning how I manage my business and deal with my clients and the service I give my clients when they request a face-to-face meeting?

You have a one-track mind when it comes to casinos, of course. You are out to prove that everyone (except you) who ever sets foot in a casino must be an addicted gambler. Is this because of your own personal problems and bankruptcy caused by gambling?

Thank you for your concern about my health, but trust me -- I didn't pull myself off my deathbed or endanger my life by flying to Vegas to meet with my clients.

13+ hours of frenzied gambling? Hardly. It was measured, controlled, disciplined and I won.

And yes, if my client wanted to meet in Phoenix I would have flown to Phoenix. But the client is in Vegas (as others are).

Now, Rob, to quote you: "please don't do anything like this again." I'm tired of you and I think you've lost the ability to make positive contributions here.

A better quote... John Wayne, in "Hondo"... ""A man ought'a do what he thinks is best." The best thing for this forum would be for you to finally hit him with the ban hammer.

Exactly the denial I and everyone else here expected. It must have shook you some if you can't remember the dozen times I've admitted to being an addicted gambler. Right from day one of my website thru here multiple times. Your denials are the same as any gambler with a problem would try to divert & deflect with. You're fighting it. And guess what? My post that bothered you is the most important contribution I've made on your forum. Of COURSE you'll never admit to what I'm telling you from experience! Not here....not ever. But if I can help make a difference to you personally, mission accomplished.

BTW, think about what else you said. Exactly how many people who always drive to LV & back but announced they were too sick to do it this time, would jump on a plane fighting airports and airport crowds, then spend 13 hours gambling in smokey surroundings? Does that sound smart....or desperate? And here's a flash. Primm casinos are there for two simple reasons: for Californians who just can't wait 45 more minutes to get to the tables and machines, and for Californians who just can't bear to leave the action behind in their rear view mirrors. Check it out next time for yourself. 95% of the plates are from Calif.

Yes, I am questioning your "business" savvy when it comes to these clients and when you talk about it here. Anyone who requests an urgent face-to-face in the business world would never, ever disappear to SF with little to no notice (yes, I know how long a flight from Burbank to LV takes). This makes no sense. What client would do such a thing knowing you were on travel FOR THEM?! I'm guessing you didn't tell that part of the story right.

Rob I am suspending you for one month for personal attacks.

By the way: the Infomercial was already produced and has been on the air in various cities for quite some time. The meeting was to discuss broadcasting the Infomercial on San Francisco TV stations. This had nothing to do with travel to SF on short notice but it was all about a meeting with company owners to discuss their marketing.

Why were you even explaining this and defending yourself. It was just a small portion of the entire story/experience. It is none of his business how you run your business. Now, a different question for you. This is Rob's 3rd or 4th ban right? Do you really think his behavior is going to change for the better this time? After every ban it just got worse so what makes you believe this month is going to change anything? Just curious.

When it comes to Rob, the quote I think of is this:

    Richard Nixon:
Oh, when the President does it, that means that it is not illegal.
What is and what isn't "legal" seems to depend more on who is doing it than what is being done.

I'd wager that nearly every one of Rob's responses to your posts have had some sort of personal attack included, so this latest event is nothing new. The fact that this one centers on your business trip is actually less "personal" than he generally gets with his venom.

Actually, I don't care about the personal attacks on me. I can take it, and I'm "bigger" than RS. It was really the accumulation of all of the other attacks. If RS comes back (and frankly I hope he doesn't because we don't need him) he will be on a very short leash. A very, very short leash.

Amen to that Alan. Let's see what happens in a month.

In the meantime, I am looking forward to all of RS' critics who wanted him banned to now post their thoughts. You won't have the excuse of RS being here to hijack your threads. You didn't post but complained about his posts. Now it's time for all of his critics to post. To put it bluntly: put up or shut up.

I'm sorry Alan, I'll try to be less meek in the future

Whether Rob comes back or not, (Hi Rob! I know you're reading!), I hope everyone feels more free about posting. It's all just words on a screen, and attacks that have no substance should just be ignored. If you are getting hammered it probably means your posts are just having a lot of impact...

I'm off to Vegas in the morning for a few days. I'll be sure to post all of my $50,000 and $100,000 wins for all of you envious swine to ogle over.

No problem Alan, that's what I said and that's what I'll do. But let's also make a different deal. After one month, Rob is going to come back (you know it and I know it), as soon as he hijacks one topic not RS related you throw him out. I've seen too many topics go downhill within 2 or 3 posts because Singer jumped in and steared the conversation in his direction. Do we have a deal?

    I promise you: short leash.

As others have stated, it's extremely discouraging to see a topic hijacked by RS and taken down a path littered with his insults and dubious VP exploits. Few threads have fully been a pleasure to read and contribute to due to his ridicule and never ending self promotion. I started a thread back in March about an upcoming VP tournament and asked him to stay out because I wanted a serious, on point exchange to take place. Not surprisingly, he ignored my request and posted an insult about participants... "Crowds of old fat people who can't stand long because of bad feet or can't sit still long because of hemorrhoids". When this is the permitted operational environment for as long as I have been a member, it may take a while for the polluted waters to be clean enough for some of us to dive back into the pool.

I suggest we stop talking about RS and focus on other things of more interest. I just posted a thread about Caesars Total Rewards cutting some of the benefits for lower level Diamond players: they have resumed charging a fee for cash advances and use of ATM cards at the cage. See that thread and please comment there.

This request to stop discussing him is unusual given that in post #14 you asked for "our thoughts", which is why I posted #18. (My wife can't make up her mind either.)
