Thread: The Quad (hotel rooms) to be renovated an renaming of the resort

  1. #1
I read an article in the Las Vegas Sun yesterday about the planned renovation of The Quad hotel rooms and renaming the property to The LINQ Hotel & Casino. Here's the link to the story:

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2014...new-name-linq/

Is it just me or is this telling about CET's branding/marketing skills? I think it's unbelievable that CET just invested 100's of millions into the renovation of the Imperial Palace and naming it the Quad. It's beyond me why they decided not to renovate the rooms at that time as well. Now, shorty after "establishing" The Quad they decide to pump over 200 million dollars in the resort AGAIN. Now, they are going to revamp the rooms and they will rename the Resort (new signage, felt on the tables, the webite, etc.). Maybe I'm too negative but I tend to understand why this company is in financial trouble.

I never liked the name "The Quad" but I think calling it "The LINQ Hotel" makes sense. Better to fix mistakes faster than to let "The Quad" name continue. And it never hurts to fix up rooms either.

I still wonder why they never used the Caesars name on Rincon, the San Diego Indian Casino that Caesars runs when Rincon added its new tower and made over the resort? It's now called Harrah's Resort Southern California. It used to be Harrah's Rincon. They could have called it Caesars San Diego... unless they don't think Rincon lives up to the Caesars brand-- which is very possible.

I agree that it's better to fix mistakes and I always thought is was a bad move to renovate the casino/resort without renovating the rooms. So in some way this is good move. At the same time I'm surprised a multi billion corporation like CET which is in the financial difficulty like they are decides to spend over 200 million dollars to "fix a mistake" this easily. When they started the renovation of the Imperial Palace the plans for the Linq wheel were already in place. Couldn't they have thought about this at that time? Makes me wonder if people at the marketing department got fired over this.

I believe that is probably the reason, mostly gleaned from reading about their planning when they merged. I had a Caesar's near me, that is now a Horseshoe. I'm not sure how many of them are left; the only one I can think of is Windsor, (Atlantic City?)

I drove by the Hilton yesterday and they already have a small "Westgate" sign on it. I wonder if they are planning on trying to get a license for the casino or just sub-contracting it. I went by SLS today, and it looks pretty sharp. You really can't see the Sahara in it at all. Even the place where the roller coaster used to emerge has a what appears to be a big electronic sign over the opening. Its been a while since I've been here but it also appears that Gentling is making project on the old Echelon lot. There may be hope for the north end of the strip yet, but I think SLS may have a hard time convincing their demographic, (hipsters and young gals with fake boobs), to come up that far. I think Gentling will fare a little better, and CC and the Riviera should reap good benefits from them as well.

I hit a 2k royal a couple of hours after I got here. I tipped the guy a nickle and told him he should get a real job, then stood up to end my play, announced I am leaving, and then moved to the next machine over to start a new session. Actually, I got kind of pounded this morning but I'm still way ahead and while only time will tell I suspect I'll end the trip with double what I started with. My palms are already sweating in anticipation of the offers that will soon come.

One of the problems with the Internet and with Forums is that we can't tell if someone is being serious or being sarcastic. If this was serious about tipping a nickel and telling him to get a real job, then I am sad to read it. But I think it was sarcasm directed towards comments by another (sometimes suspended) forum member. And frankly, I don't think sarcastic posts should be made here. I think in the future this forum should be dedicated to information and honest opinions. Sarcasm is neither informative or presents an honest opinion. (However, if it was meant as a sarcastic swipe, it's pretty darn good. I only wish you labeled it as sarcastic just so everyone knows it was intended with humor.)

Put a fork in CET. First of all, the Planet Hollywood acquisition was in direct competition with Caesars' Palace's demographic. Then the redesigned Cromwell was in direct competition with Planet Hollywood. The youngster-clubs at the Cromwell would be directly competing with Pure, which (surprise, surprise) closed for renovations and expansion, supposedly. A giant ferris wheel was supposed to save their ass? Maybe in Branson.

It's time. Let them collapse and allow the private equity vultures to pick their bones.

Sorry, I should have used fake HTML tags to denote that, usually done with:

    </sarcasm>

After so many years of listening to the blather its kind of hard to forget and I have a difficult time resisting mocking what is so easily mocked, but I'll try my best to be a model forum citizen in the future.

I did indeed leave a decent, but not extravagant tip. Oddly, (for me anyway), I hit progressive quarter royal this afternoon for $1071, and I tipped him as well. He was genuinely appreciative of it and said he worked 2 jobs to make ends meet. And then I let the maid call in from my room phone even though I didn't need her to do anything so that my room counted in her daily quota, making her life a little bit easier today as well.

It isn't just about money or being "intimidated", its about treating other people as you'd like to be treated. There are scores of good people stuck in lousy jobs and if I can make their day just a little bit brighter then I'll gladly do so.

I am pretty sick of the constant parade of scammers though, but perhaps that's fodder for a different thread.

Someone recently posted a trip report on LVA that had this to say about his 5th floor Forum Tower room at Caesars:

No view whatsoever and the furniture was very marked up and looked rough. TV reception was grainy and I wasn’t very impressed at all knowing we could have stayed at Aria for a similar rate or Wynn for about $25 more a night. Having earned several hundred reward dollars in the past at Harrahs thanks to the Great Race Promotion two years ago and always wanting to stay at Caesars I chose to knock it off my bucket list. Overall the room was disappointing
So if Caesars is trying to protect their brand then they seem to be doing a poor job of it.

Sarcasm can be a very strong and funny way to make a point when it's done right. Spocks sarcasm was quite obvious, funny and therefore appropriate. In my humble opinion.

It didn't belong in this thread. It's a form of thread hijacking. One thing I would like to see is keeping threads on topic. It's easy to create a new thread.

Regarding the Forum tower criticism: when was that trip and I thought the rooms were made over. The new Octavious has bad views in many rooms.

This thread is not about CP but about the Quad and its renovation/transformation into the LINQ. Sorry Alan, but please do practice what you preach (keep it on topc or start a new thread/ thread hijacking, ect.)? If your response was about CET decision making, its financial position and what to expect in the near future, I would call that on topic. Not so much when we start discussing the quality of Forum Tower rooms.

I didn't raise the issue of the Forum Tower but I think discussion about other Caesars properties and their maintenance would be appropriate.

I was in the remodeled Quad casino a.while back. The new casino has a modern look.

I like the fresh, modern look of the Quad casino as well. I'm very curious to see how the rooms will look after the renovations.

Vegas_lover even if the rooms are magnificent would you stay there? I've seen the casino and it is small and doesn't have worthwhile VP. I would still prefer a property such as Caesars or Bellagio which have more on site and are a short distance from the Linq. So my question how will the rooms be made over and what demographic will they target? Will the rooms be high tech or will they have stripper poles like in the Palms?

I probably wouldn't stay there because I concentrate my play at Mlife resorts. Besides that, I like a good pool scene/vibe and the pool at the Quad/Linq is nothing to write home about. I prefer Tropicana, Mirage, Monte Carlo when we go to Vegas during pool season. Otherwise, we stay at NYNY because we love the vibe at the NYNY casino the most.

WOTS is that with the upscale approach to the new Linq, CET will get rid of O'Sheas as it "doesn't fit".

Edit: The Las Vegas Advisor is reporting that O'Sheas will stay put. Good news.
