Thread: Deadlines to pay off markers

  1. #1
I've written several articles about the ease and convenience of using casino markers and I also pointed out that if you have an occasional "problem" paying a marker, a phone call to the cage or your host can usually buy you some "free time."

What have you heard about the "extra free time" they give you?

Today a host with Caesars Entertainment told me that if you don't pay by your deadline you will first get a courtesy call before they deposit your marker in the bank (a marker is a check on your account). The courtesy call will come a couple of days after your marker is due.

I had never heard about the courtesy call before and always thought it was up to the player to call first.

My original article about markers and casino credit is on this page:

When I first set up my marker situation (about 100 years ago), it was set up for a courtesy call before they put them thru if I happened to forget to pay them within the 30 days. I only forgot once all these years and I did get the call. There was no urgency and they just marked it for another week to give the mail time. They have always understood that people prefer that they don't just put them thru because most people don't want wives to see them.

Locally, I also had the courtesy call originally. But over the years as all the credit people have moved on, I no longer get the courtesy call. If I forget, they put them thru. However, I almost always pay in person rather than let them go thru the bank. If I can't get to the casino before the due date, a simple call by me and there is never a problem extending. However, in Illinois, if you go beyond 30 days, the law requires that the account be suspended and you have to re apply.
