Thread: Atlantic City-Caesars

  1. #1
Spent a long weekend in AC Caesars. I'm putting this in the Las Vegas thread because it addresses issues discussed here about Caesars' properties.

    1. GOOD--Used a host who had e-mailed me 2 years ago. Computer was giving me 3 nights free but had to pay for Monday (4th night). Host picked up all 4 nights.

    2. BAD--Had requested early check in. Got there at 11:30 and was told that they had been completely full the previous night and rooms were being cleaned. Left my e-mail--never got a follow up. Came back at 3:30 and was told room was still not clean but they found me another room.

    3. BAD--Bonus poker is 6-5.

    4. MEDIUM-DDB is 9-6.

    5. GOOD--new soap , shampoo, etc. every day whether the old ones were used or not. So there were 4 Body Lotions sitting there when I left.

    6. BAD--you have to call housekeeping and tell them if you want clean sheets each morning.

    7. GOOD--THE OCEAN!!!!

    8. BAD--there aren't that many restaurants in the casino. There are additional restaurants in the Pier Shops which is essentially in the same building. The ones in the Pier shops cost $2.00 in rewards for every $!.00 spent. Same with Mortons in the casino and, sadly, the great breakfast/sandwich/coffee/gelato place that is outstanding for a quick and quality bite but do not use your points there.

    9. BAD--still on food. $60 for an alleged prime steak at Neros. So tough and dry I sent it back (which I never do).

    10. GOOD--great server at Neros. No problem with the rejected steak and he bought us wine for the problem.

    11. GOOD--Lots of free entertainment (concerts, light show, clubs, etc.). So you don't have to gamble day and night for entertainment. And of course you have the Boardwalk.

    12. GOOD--You're on the frigging ocean!!!!!

    13. BAD--Surprising lower class of people all over the Boardwalk and AC in general. I have been there many times now (business/pleasure) and never seen it that bad.

    14. GOOD--5 times odds in craps (which is so-so) but great dealers.

    15. BAD--impossible to get a drink. The servers do not walk around the slot areas. You have to use the beverage request button on the machine. And you can't request more than one drink. I waited over an hour for a water one night. When she finally came, I asked her for a second water and she said she couldn't. I asked her to bring me another next time she came around--never saw her again.

At the craps table, a blind guy betting big money asked for a drink. They called for a server--no one came for 40 minutes. The blind guy was really pissed. And the dealers and Floor man were talking about how this has to change. They are helpless and players are getting pissed. When she did come, the blind guy asked her to bring another drink so he didn't have to wait again. She snottily said she doesn't take orders and walked away.

    16. GOOD--Caesars was generally very clean and well maintained.

    17. BAD--Innumerable machines sat the whole 4 days saying out of paper or in similar disrepair. I have the same problem here at Horseshoe Indiana.

    18. REAL BAD--Not their fault. Sat in the airport going home for 6 hours due to storm in Chicago.

    19. BAD--Couldn't get a reservation to Chef Vola. Google or Yelp it if you haven't heard of it.

    20. GOOD-- I just effing love the ocean!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Question about the drink requests on the machines: is it a simple "call server" button or can you order specific drinks/combinations? Rincon in San Diego features a system where you can actually choose the drinks you want with a menu.

I only wanted a bottle of water so I didn't go that deep. But it first asked hard liquor or soft. I clicked soft and it offered all the different stuff. So I assume hard was the same--looks like you order the specific drink or combo.

It might indeed be the same system that was first tested at Rincon. It is not in Vegas yet, but that is the plan. It is supposed to eliminate the need for servers to cruise the floor. Instead you place your order from the machine and it goes direct to the bar and the servers are dispatched from the bar.

At Rincon this only works at the machines. At the tables it's still a matter of the servers taking orders.

Well--the system definitely doesn't work. In the old days in Vegas if you even looked thirsty the pit boss was calling over a server and she better get there immediately. The waits I and the blind guy had were unconscionable. But I just don't think Caesars cares anymore about anything or anybody.

Consider this: When you buy alcohol at Rincon you pay cash for it. In Vegas and AC the drinks are free. Which casino(s) are going to rush to fill the orders?

I haven't been to AC in quite a long while, but I feel for you, regnis. You have a beautiful ocean on one side, and the other side looks like Detroit on a really bad day. If you walk another block inland, you'd think it was Beirut.

Back in the 80's, I attended a conference at Bally's, and AC had a sense of optimism and cleanliness about it. No more. AC looked a helluva lot better in the 60's and 70's than it does now.

I started going there about 5 or 6 years ago. You are so correct--I did notice immediately that you don't leave the boardwalk on foot---at least not more than a block or two. And even the boardwalk can be rough late at night after the crowd dies down. I won't let my wife walk alone.

But on this trip the beaches were spotless. Previously, they weren't that clean.

I never would have gone there the first time but I have a client in Jersey and I combined that with a day up north at Monmouth. Rather than overpay for a hotel, I just book the freebie at Caesars and drive up to Monmouth (little over an hour) and then another 15 to my client. After that first time, I look forward to it just for the ocean. Anything else with Caesars is pretty much secondary. We didn't used to have flights to AC from Chicago so I used to have to go through Philly and/or Newark. But last year United put in 1 flight to AC. Saves a ton of travel time if you don't get stuck in the airport for 6 hours.
