Thread: Alan yelled at me.....

Alan almost gave me a heart attack when he said, "NO'. I was playing Aces & Faces. The payout for quad Aces was 400 coin. I held the 2 deuces with the 2 Aces. I get that now. Thank you Alan.

Correct me if I'm wrong....I don't think it matters it you're playing a game at 100%.

From what I've read on these forums, having experience out weighs playing a game at 100%.

I'd like to hear some strategies from "seasoned" players.

    1) What about a 125 coin pay out for quad faces. Would you sacrifice a full house having 3 face cards?
    2) Or even two pairs with one being a pair of faces. Would you sacrifice the lower pair for a chance at 3 or 4 faces.
    3) What about straights and flushes. There must be different strategies for these situations.

I've only been playing for a couple months now and practicing everyday with software. Seems to be my winning pots were bigger when my strategy was worse.

You still don't have it right. You should hold BOTH pairs but I said that at 25 cents I'd try for quad aces. At $1 and higher I hold both pairs.

I yelled at you when you were playing 8/5 Jacks when both 8/5 Aces and 8/5 Bonus were on the same machine.

Alan is correct that you should never play 8/5 Jacks or Better when 8/5 Bonus or 8/5 Aces and Faces are available at the same denomination. It's literally giving away free money to the casino.

But please don't listen to his advice about throwing away the second pair on a 25c machine. That's a big mistake. It is never correct to discard two pair.

This is actually a repeat of a discussion in the Las Vegas Forum. Holding AA with another pair in Aces and Faces is always the correct strategy. But at 25 cents I'd take the gamble for the long shot of hitting the $100 payoff. If you want correct strategy hold the guaranteed $2.50 pay and hope for a full house for $10... if $10 will make your day. (I don't know why it was brought up again?)

I think Rob is a bad influence on Alan.

The question is this: When dealt AA22X on Aces and Faces at the 25-cent level are you willing to risk $1.25 to possibly win $100 by just holding AA?

By holding AA which returns your original $1.25 bet (break even at worst) you still have the chance to pick up another pair, or even a full house.

By holdiing AA22 only FOUR other cards will improve your hand and they are the two aces and the two 2s remaining. That's 4 out of 47 cards or about 9% of the remaining cards. But half of those 4 cards are the two aces which could give you the $100.

Sacrificing $1.25 for the shot at $100 is something I would do at the 25-cent level. I would not do it at the $1 level or higher because it's not $1.25. At the $1 level it's $5 and I certainly wouldn't do it at the $5 level because that's $25.

But on a 25-cent game, why not? I think a $100 payoff for a 25-cent player would be a very nice hit. And in case the other two aces don't come, the 25-cent player still has a push.

Dan, perhaps you should loosen up your "tight play" a bit. Maybe you'd finally hit a royal?

Risky move, since the VP machine might check raise Dan. (Yeah, sorry can't resist these bad puns lately.)

    That's very funny.
