Thread: Saturday night at Rincon -- PAYOUTS change on VP machines

I went to Rincon but it wasn't a gambling trip. My host called me Saturday afternoon that she had two tickets for the Styx concert -- fourth row center. My date and I drove down and it was a great concert.

Saturday was also a "cash day". I picked up $105 cash at Total Rewards. The promotion also called for more cash based on play -- but we didn't play except for $55 of free play that I had. Played 8/5 Bonus and cashed out $10 because we got tired.

We played VP after a late dinner at Fiore -- magnificent. She had rib eye and oysters, I had jumbo shrimp and halibut, and some great sides that came home because we couldnt eat it all. Yes, the Total Rewards gift cards are accepted there and I had a card in my pocket.

$200 show tickets + dinner on the TR gift cards + $105 cash + $10 cashout from free play + a great night with the new girlfriend = a real advantage play.

Now the other big news: I couldnt get on my favorite machines so we sat at the new style, Game Kings with the fancy screens. And surprisingly the payouts on Bonus were now 8/5. When these machines were first put in the pay table was 7/5. So we played 8/5 Bonus at 25-cents.

I didn't think about checking the pay tables on the other games including Jacks, Triple Double Bonus, and so forth so if anyone is there please check.

I was very lucky playing the $5 slots on Saturday and earned $720 on the cash promotion. They made me fill out a release and a w-9. I asked what the threshold was for the paperwork and was told 3 different answers.

A W9 ?? For a gambling rebate?? What were the three different answers? This is a new one for me.

A w-9 is, of course, a request for your social security number. In order to be eligible for the rebate at the promotion, you needed a Total Rewards card. When you signed up for the TR card you had to have a government ID and you had to give them your social security number.

I don't understand why they asked for another W9 ??

Aaron can you provide any more info?

The problem to me was I received 3 different answers from the marketing people.

I called my host over and he told me he would find out.

He called the VP of finance at home and found out that they require the w-9 for “internal records” if the 1R$ were to question them about “cash” disbursements. I was told I would not receive a 1099 or w-2 for the money.

The other form was a release.

It was a lot of work for $720. I would still like to know what the threshold is for the paperwork. The 1R$ code states that any payments over $600 in a year requires a 1099. It sound like this might fall under that.

I would sure hate to be audited from misreported income by the casino.

I think the cash promotion is not a good choice for me any more. Too many questions unanswered.

If I do play in another cash promotion, I will first ask the promotion supervisor what the threshold is and stop playing on my card at that level. Or play on someone else’s card. (I have lots of friends that want to be diamond.)

Do you know if they require any paperwork for a loss rebate?

I think this was very unusual. But you played a lot to get $720 back and that $720 might have raised a red flag and they didn't know what to do. Actually they didn't have to do anything but hand you the cash and thank you for being such a great customer.

I don't know anyone who received a loss rebate but I do know that a rebate is NOT taxable income.
