Thread: Royal flush alert

Harrah's Rincon Casino is likely to get hit by video poker teams from Vegas on Wednesday.

On Tuesday the casino shut down several slot progressives and transferred the jackpot pools to the $5 video poker double double bonus progressive.

    The progressive jumped above $70,000.

    Note the paytable is 8/5.

Late Tuesday night the progressive reached $71,000.

Too bad I can't ever hit Royals, or I might be interested.

You should try, Alan, as you seem to be on a Royal streak.

8/5 DDB machines pay out just 96.79%. However, the $71k Royal adds another 5.09%, so the machine is actually a nice 101.84% -- and rising.

However, you still will only hit a royal about once every 40,000 hands, so it's very much feast or famine playing a low-paytable machine like that.

Are you saying Rincon took a progressive jackpot off of a slot machine and moved it over to the video poker machines? I didn't know they could do that?

They do this on purpose in order to raise the vp jackpot? Why? Do they make more money on the machines doing that?

What size are the teams generally? They pool their money the same way people pool for a lottery ticket?

I was considering going to Rincon today as Wednesdays are usually quiet, but maybe the high limit area will be too crowded now.

In fact, Rincon removed several slot machine games with progressives. And the progressive jackpot "pools" or amounts accrued on the old slot games were moved to the video poker game.

Rincon did this once before -- they removed a particular progressive slot game and moved the jackpot over to the $1 video poker progressive and that put the $1 progressive at something like $15,000. It was hit within hours of the move.

Yesterday they disabled the slot machine progressives and moved the jackpot pools over to the $5 video poker progressive.

I don't know what the law is in California, but in Nevada this is the law -- casinos must move progressive jackpots to another game IF they disable the game.

If you recall the Majestic Lions progressive at MGM that was recently hit for more than 2-million dollars -- MGM elected to keep one machine with that progressive until it was hit. But MGM could have taken that progressive jackpot and split it up onto other progressives if they wanted to.

The law in Nevada is that the "progressive jackpot" belongs to the players. That might also be the law in California -- I don't know because I haven't checked.

The bottom line is this: Rincon decided to remove certain slot machine progressives and they moved the progressive pools to the $5 double double bonus video poker progressive. As of last night it was about $71,000.

I was at Rincon a couple of years ago when the progressive on the $5 video poker games was about $72,000 and there was a line of people waiting to get on the machines and a team from Reno and another team from Vegas had every seat occupied. If I recall, a player from Vegas won it.

Maybe Frank will come out of hiding?? One thing's for certain: Mickey's not interested because it's not at least 10% positive.

Dan's not playing it because he doesn't hit royals? Now there's the normal everyday AP type of response. Don't worry Dan, we know why you're not playing it.

Actually, with those numbers and correct strategy the payback is at 102.8% plus the meter movement and the royal odds are 31,500

Alan, do you know how many machines are in the bank?

Wow... I should know this, but it's either five or six. It used to be only five, but I think they added one about a year ago. To be honest, there are only two machines I usually play in that bank of machines: One is against the wall (end machine) because the smoke from other players blows away from that seat. And the other machine also has Aces&Faces and it is an interior machine.

I've never had a $5 denom at 10% positive. The 10% positives I'm talking about are on a 50 cent bet. Actually, I'm not into long distance travel these days. And the real gamble would be whether it gets hit or not before I get there. To much of a logistical problem for me to even think about going to it. But I did inform WoV'ers that it is still there as of last night. I'm sure the bank is getting tons of action by now and the royal will be gone sometime in the next couple of days. Maybe Alan can keep us posted as to when it goes.

I'm hoping that one of our forum members will let us know. I have no plans to be there anytime soon.

If a team shows up, I doubt anyone will get a seat. The last time the team from Reno showed up there were five of them -- four always playing and one taking a break. Ironically, a non-team player hit the progressive. That was the guy from Vegas who scored the $72-thou royal. By the way, he hit on machine #3 -- with the machine against the wall being #1.

The team from Reno? Would that be Winston's team? He's Asian.

Winston is known for not locking up all the machines on a progressive bank to keep the heat down. I played against his team quite a bit in Reno in the early 2000's.

    Alan,

Are all those machines on the right side against that wall progressives?

But the $71,000+ royal most likely won't be.

I lost $1000 of my winnings last Sunday when the Jackpot was 41k on these. Didn't hit 1 4oak.

I can give an update on Saturday afternoon.

100% true! Was in Laughlin for the weekend and lost $8,000. Came back to vegas at 9am with $30 in my pocket and the one cc I brought with me was maxed out. I needed money for the two hour period when I was going to check into the hotel and before I got a western union transfer. Got the money at 1pm. Checked in and had a great time. Clear enough for you?
