Thread: own Game King

  1. #1
    hey guys

does anyone own their own Game King? If so, which version is it?

I'm toying with the idea, and I would like the most recent version, is it 6.3?

Any advice/comments welcome. I see they retail at about 2k, which since we are expecting baby no 2 in a few months would be really awesome to be able to play at home and get my gambling fix without needing to step out of the house.
    thanks all

You list your location as Texas. Are they legal to own in Texas? How are you going to buy it? If by mail (shipping) the seller might balk at shipping to Texas if not legal there.

Here in California slot machines must be a minimum of 25 years old to be able to own.

You cannot buy any of the newest versions of Game Kings. Every one gets leased to casinos for a certain number of years, which is quite long, and only after a certain point are they released for sale. That's why it's the 25 years in Calif. that Alan mentioned. There's plenty of machines for sale, but I think most or all of them are still coin droplets. Don't know about shipments to Texas. Isn't that still a non-casino state?

The reason why you can't own slots until they are 25 years old in California is because of a state law that blocks slot machine gambling except in Indian casinos. Machines older than 25 years are considered "antiques" and "collectibles" and are excluded.

There are current Game Kings available for sale at various stores in Vegas. They may not be the newest models, but even the newest models are sold to private citizens. I believe IGT maintains a store for Nevada residents in Reno.

I did research this issue for a client several years ago. So unless the law has changed in the last few years, Texas does allow an individual to own a slot machine as long as it is not used for profit.

Profit is not limited to cash--you can't offer stuffed animals and similar "prizes" either.

We built a slot machine from scratch in high school back in 79/80. (Starting with the circuit boards.)

I wonder, would it be legal to ship the parts nowadays?

According to this mail order company in Ohio, Texas allows all slots:

Thanks all. as far as I could see the eBay and other sellers do sell to Texas. naturally I would just use it as a no cash device, I imagine I could print myself a ticket and play with that.

I think the 6.3 appears to be the latest I can buy myself, I'd love a newer one but 2k is probably my limit anyway price wise.
    Thanks for the info all

BTW, it's legal to play poker here, long as you don't charge for the sandwiches, etc.

I've been in the store in Reno this year. There were not any newer vp machines of any kind available for sale. I didn't ask if they were available, but when I got a new GK thru other means when I tested it back in 2007, there were none for sale anywhere.
