What were you expecting? Lots of people would love 4 or 5 free nights at one of those places.

    Rob,

Expecting? I merely stated the invitation was not that fancy.

Fancy? What would make the offers that way?

By "nothing fancy" I thought you meant the offers. No more New Year's Day brunches? No more New Year's gift? I remember when these were standard.

No, I meant the invitation. In the past the invitations were blingy with glitter or feathers. This one is very plain and ordinary. Not much different from a regular offer other than the size. Must be a girl thing.
No brunch, no New Years gift.

More cost cutting. What's for dinner? Hot dogs?

OK I get what you're saying. I remember the last time I went to a NYE event on an invitation was in the early 2000's at the Venetian. The invitation came by Fed-X, and it was a black & gold letter sized envelope that when opened, had like a 3D foldout of Sophia Loren, who was at the party. Emerill was the dinner chef and the band was Oingo Boingo in one room and a big-band-era band in the other. My offer included a video camera and a $1000 chip. I remember not being THAT big a player there, but I was ahead of them around $40k at the time. I don't think such offers exist any more, esp. from what I've seen from 7-Stars complaints.

Is that what you mean by fancy?

    Nash, are you Seven Stars?

If so, the 4 nights accommodations thing is a joke, as you'd get that anyway.

That's pretty sad. I fear the "good old days" for NYE offers are gone for good (or bad).

Yes Rob that's exactly what I meant.

Dan, yes I am Seven Stars. Was your New Years invite different (if you got one)?

I am booked for Caesars Palace for New Year's Eve. The "official" offer on the website appears this way:

Enjoy 5 free nights at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (12/29 - 1/3), receive New Year's Day brunch for 2, and 2 tickets for the New Year's Eve Party!

There is more to this than just a New Year's Eve party at Caesars. However, I can't say. One reason is that the contract with a performer may not have been signed yet. While I can't say what's going on... someone else who is in the know is certainly free to comment.

I stopped doing LV on NYE years ago. It's a zoo and is for the younger generations, and us old folk just get in the way. I see no reason to travel with the traffic to be with the crowds (which is our #1 reason for keeping away) and then travel home with the traffic. I've always spent time in that city with my wife and sometimes entire family during the week between Christmas & New Years.

I haven't gotten mine yet. I'm sure it will be no better than yours.

Your offers were particularly obnoxious because they exclude Caesars, so now you have to choose between staying at Caesars (a normal Seven Stars benefit) or staying at an inferior property and getting a little casino play or perks.

I already have a reservation at Caesar's, and given that it's unlikely I'll be invited to a party there, I will be skipping any NYE offers from other properties unless I can non-lodge them.

    Dan,

We normally stay at Harrah's or Planet Hollywood anyway. I have already booked Harrah's for New Years. I don't really care about the main event (surprise entertainment) at Caesar's. If it's who I think it is I'll probably get tickets to it eventually anyway.
Even if you opt out of the New Years offers there is no casino play unless you get it by December 29th.

Who really cares about where you stay on New Year's Eve? When I check into my suite at which ever property I am staying at I'm most likely only there for 10 minutes. The next step is down and into the Casino to have some fun! Who really cares who's playing on New Year's Eve? I have no interest in seeing Olivia Newton John Travolta, Rita Rudener, Pin & Stellar, Rod Stuarrrt or Jennifer Louuuuupez! Oh I forgot, I can't stand Celine Diooooooonnn! Thank gawd she's not there. The only one worth seeing is Sir Elton John. He puts on the best show each and every time he performs! Oh he's probably not there. Who really care's about the New Year's Day brunch and the New Year's Eve dinner? In most cases they usually suck as well! The food is always under prepared and cold. You would think by now that they could at least get this one right. "NOT" Who really cares about the free play? When I attend one of these CET experiences I plan on doing one thing. Yes I bring my own bank roll and play. If I get free play well....I'll take it. In most cases it's not nearly enough to sustain my play. I'm only there for one reason. To play and enjoy New Year's in the city that I really enjoy! As far as I am concerned when I go to Las Vegas only three things can happen. I either win, lose or break even. As for all of you small minded thinkers CET doesn't really owe you anything. You're going there for one reason. Simply to play and hopefully win. If you lose well that's the way it goes. CET is not going to ask you for your winnings back so lets take it easy on what they give away. If you get a room, comps or free play that is all good and cool. If not then find another place to play. In life nothing is free. The definition of gambling is exactly what the word means. You're gambling and you either win, lose or break even. In the past years CET offers have been reduced. Maybe they are having money problems. "Everybody has problems and personally I don't care." I could care less if the invitations are fancy or plain Jane. CET is offering free rooms and other little goodies so I say "Thank You." "Obnoxious and Hot Dogs" are pretty stupid as some of the dear boys have written. I'm going for the fun! This is what I enjoy. The rest of you girly men should probably just stay home! Enjoy your New Year's at home and hopefully after the first of the year you won't have anything to bitch about! Well that's my opinion. All of you enjoy your New Year's Eve and New Year and love the one your with! Thanks CET for everything this year! One thing tho......You can keep your TV because I really think it's cheaper for me to run out and buy one! Now I'm out!

We all have our reasons for going or for not going to Vegas for New Years. I went last year ONLY because I wanted to see Katy Perry. I was there right below the stage, amazed that she never showed a bead of sweat, and had a great time. Last year was my first time back in about six years or so. I had that six year hiatus because I had a horrible NYE weekend and couldn't even get my room made up by housekeeping for two days.

Last year was much different. While the dinner was not great the show was fantastic and we loved standing outside Caesars to watch the fireworks. I didn't tell this story before about last year, so I'll say it now:

The show ended about 11pm and my date and I went to the casino to play craps. The casino was empty. So we walked up to a table and I got the dice and just the two of us played. While I didn't win any big money I was slightly ahead. Then, a couple of minutes before midnight, the dealers said to us "go watch the fireworks." So, we went outside the front door and they held up everything for us to return. About 12:15 we came back in -- there were about eight players at the table and everyone was waiting for us -- after all I STILL HAD THE DICE. I resumed my hand. At what other casino would they stop all action while the shooter goes out with his date to watch New Years fireworks?

This year my girlfriend wants to go because we anticipate a great show at Caesars. And that's really the main reason. We're not expecting a great dinner -- those dinners really are never great though last year my son at Planet Hollywood said his dinner was fantastic. At Caesars it was kind of poor. But it didn't matter last year and it won't matter this year.

When I went to Vegas years ago there were very attractive New Year's gifts ranging from Bose radios to fine China to bottles of Dom. I don't expect anything this year, but times have changed.

If I stayed in LA New Years here would probably be a royal pain and probably much more expensive than what I might gamble in Vegas. Do you realize how expensive the good restaurants charge for NYE here? Do you realize what a pain it is to drive and what the valets charge in LA? Going to Vegas will be a relaxing, low cost alternative to staying in LA. And I really hope Caesars can put on a great show. (It worries me that they won't make the deal they are trying to make.)

I haven't seen the invitations yet -- mine hasn't arrived. But I was booked several weeks before they went in the mail. My host wanted to be sure I got in to the show since they opened the show to 7 Stars all over the USA in anticipation that a particular act will be booked.

Quad AAAA's if your thing is going to the casino and gambling over NYE weekend then good for you. I'm not going for the gambling. I'm going for the entertainment and the event and I saved up reward credits and arranged for a $500 folio credit so we can enjoy restaurants and room service meals when we are not at the dinner and the Sunday brunch.

And yes, I look at NYE weekend as a time for Caesars to "give back" to its players. If there isn't a big show I will be very disappointed.

I called it "obnoxious" because they are promoting "free" benefits for New Years that Seven Stars already get as part of their standard benefits. So why say "You're getting 4 free nights at Paris!" when every Seven Stars member realizes that this is nothing above what they can get at literally any time of the year at any time they want?

It's like they just have to pad the offer with the "free nights" nonsense just to make it sound better.

Anyway, I don't have an "expectation" for any particular offer. I realize that these offers are being given as a way to entice you to come on property and gamble. Some believe that they "deserve" comps from past play. I don't see it that way. Comps are meant to bring you BACK to play, not to reward past play (aside from RCs, which indeed reward past play).

However, there is something to be said for, "If you can't put forth something worthwhile, don't put anything at all."

Seven Stars members all had enough money to cycle a minimum of $500,000 of VP coin-in (and probably more for most of them), so they have an expectation for quality when offered freebies. That is, the Seven Stars crowd won't be impressed by $100 freeplay or a party serving mediocre buffet food. It's actually better not to give anything at all than something like this.

The recent Signature Event in October suffered from that problem. It was actually inferior to the standard freeplay being offered at the time, so nobody wanted to sign up for it. At the last minute, after a lot of pressure from hosts, they decided to allow a rare double-dipping of offers so people would attend.

What I'm trying to say here is that CET should either have a decent NYE event or not have one at all. If there's no event, most people don't really notice. If there's a crappy event, it just pisses off the Seven Stars who think they are being cheaped out on after all of the action (and likely losses) they put in to CET this year.

Before someone like Dante trolls me, keep in mind that I am speaking from the point of view of a typical Seven Stars member (like Nash), not a comp whore like myself. BTW I think I wasn't invited to ANY New Year's party. Maybe it didn't come in the mail (CET mail tends to get lost) but it doesn't really matter, because I am staying at Caesar's anyway and I doubt they will allow me to do that as part of any so-called VIP offer.

BTW I much prefer staying in the Augustus Tower on NYE, facing the strip, and viewing the fireworks through the window from a high floor.

It beats standing in the cold down below with all of the cattle in the streets. I tried doing it with the cattle in 2005, and let's just say "never again".
