Thread: How to decide which new resort you are going to stay at

  1. #1
We have stayed at several resorts at the Strip for various reasons:

    1. to write new reviews for our website
    2. to just try something new
    3. because our comps gave us the opportunity to try new resorts
    4. Because others recommended a specific resort and/or room type

What always helps us decide where to stay are those room videos you can find on YouTube. I think they're really helpful since the pictures on the resorts' website can be very old so they won't always give you an idea of the size and current state of the various room types.

So we thought it would help others as well to share current room videos. Here's a selection of the room videos we made:

New York New York (Park Avenue Deluxe Room)

New York New York (Madison Avenue Room)

Tropicana Las Vegas (Paradise Tower Deluxe Room)

    Tropicana Las Vegas (Club Suite)

I do have more and will add them later. So tell us, what's your favourite Vegas resort & Room? Do you have a room video you would like to share?

    Here's a couple more:

    Luxor Tower Deluxe Room

For a standard room the Luxor Deluxe Room is just ok. The rooms are dated but they are clean. The furniture shows wear so they really need a refurbishment. If you're only using your room to sleep, shave and shower these rooms will do fine. They are in better shape than the Pyramid Tower rooms.

    Stratosphere Select Room

These rooms have been renovated just a couple of years ago. We really liked the room considering the price we paid. They have a large jacuzzi tub which is nice. The rooms are fresh, clean and a great value for money. The only thing Stratosphere really has against it is its location.

    The Mirage Tower Deluxe Room

Great room, a lot of amenities. The room started to show a little wear and the bed and pillows were a litle too soft for us. The Mirage is a great resort in our opinion with great service, nice restaurants, easy to navigate casino and wonderful pool area.

I find the reviews on http://las-vegas.hotelscheap.org very helpful. Never had a bad experience with these reviews. My favourite so far was the Venetian, but i dont have any Videos of the rooms

To be honest, I would never stay at Stratosphere or Luxor. Both are dumps (especially Stratosphere, which is in a HORRIBLE neighborhood.)

When it comes to Vegas I admit that I am more concerned with free play and gift offers than with a room. I spend very little time in the room. Mostly I want a clean bathroom and a shower with plenty of hot water and a comfortable bed on a quiet floor. Decor means nothing. I don't care about jacuzzis or media centers.

Dan, I get what you're saying here. I wouldn't go as far as calling both places dumps. The Luxor is in desperate need of a renovation. But I disagree with you about the Stratosphere. The Stratosphere is in better condition (overall) than places like Harrahs, Casino Royale, Bally's, Excalibur, Luxor and maybe even Monte Carlo. They could and should invest some time and money to upgrade the pool area since it's nothing special. The most important reason why the Stratosphere gets a bad rep is because of its location. I agree with you on that point. If the Stratosphere were located were Bally's is now, I'm convinced it would be one of "best sellers" on the Strip.

The free play and offers are the things we look at/for. Unfortunately, Vegas does not allow "double dipping" so we get much more from places like New Orleans, Tunica, etc.
