Thread: What to do with reward points at a casino at which i no longer play

  1. #1
Would appreciate suggestions. I have about $1000 in rewards at a casino at which I no longer play (for reasons I need not explain here). They were ready to expire due to not playing for 6 months so I went and earned 1 point to keep them alive.

I can use them for catalogue merchandise at about a 400% mark up.

I can try to spend it in their pretty good steakhouse but that's a lot of meals and an hour drive each way

I can convert it to cash at 50%.

There is no conversion to free play option.

I didn't even know I had these points until they sent me a notice that they would expire. All meals had been comped so I actually never used any points there in the 20 years or so I have been going there. It was never a primary destination for me but I had clients in the area so would stop in from time to time if I was out that way.

Go out and have a nice dinner and then take the remaining in cash for your favorite place to play.

Cash is king. Take the cash. Use it elsewhere.

I would also go for the cash.

Take the cash and run Forrest, run

    What about the restaurants?

    Do you like any there?

I would say that would be the best usage of them.

Suffering brutal 2-to-1 or 4-to-1 markups is a killer.

Dan-the steak house is pretty good--but far from great. However, the prices are not marked up excessively. A steak is $40--not $60 like a lot of places today. So it is the closest to actual value of my choices.

The buffet is crap--I would never pay for it.

However, it is an hour drive each way--could be close to 2 hours on a weeknight in rush hour.

I really wish I could transfer the points to someone that would use them.
