Thread: quickie trip to Caesars

  1. #1
I am about to leave Caesars after being here a little more than 24 hours. I had to meet with an infomercial client. I tried to hook up with the Wizard but arrived too late Friday night.

I was not charged for movies in the room.

Missing from the bathroom were things like extra soap and items such as the sewing pack and Q-tips -- another cutback.

Saturday night craps tables were $15 and $25.

When it rains it pours: played video poker at $2 7/5 Bonus and got AAAA four times.

Is AAAA four times a bad thing?

So, is the old Caesars poker room now part of the expanded club over there? Where did they put the poker room -- back part of the sports book or what? And is the dancing girl pit gone?

Quad aces four times in a couple of hours I'd call a miracle.

The Poker room is now where the fringe of the sports book was.

They still have that pit with the hot girl dealers but instead of promoting the Pussycat Dolls they now promote the nightclub. Different uniforms but same cleavage.

Quad Aces in Bonus poker beats JOB!

Alan I thought now that you hit Seven Stars you were strictly a $1.25 a hand VP player,

I caught up on my sleep and I'd like to post some more about the trip.

Seven Stars can still use the valet entrance on Flamingo along with limos, but when I arrived shortly before midnight the back up for the left turn into the Augustus Tower entrance was too long. I gave up and used the main entrance. Even at a few minutes before midnight the main valet was busy with people arriving for the club. The valet was closed except for Diamonds and Seven Stars. I flashed my card and a parking attendant quickly and cordially took care of me. I only had a small bag so I did not need any help with my luggage.

The casino under the dome was bustling with all of the tables appearing to be filled. But I had no time to look -- I had to get to Seven Stars check in before it closed at midnight. I got to the door at one minute before midnight and just as a "suit" was about to lock the door.

When I got into the Seven Stars check in there were two other guests checking in and I was the last. Meanwhile outside at the main hotel registration there was a very long line and only two people working to check them all in. That surprised me. Midnight and a long, long, long line of arriving guests. There was a third line for "Platinum" check in, but I didn't see anyone in line.

There are too many new craps dealers at Caesars now. I have nothing against new dealers except that many of the new dealers just don't fit the Caesars mold for craps dealers. The Caesars mold is dealers who are not only knowledgeable about the game, but friendly and professional looking. Sorry, Caesars, but you are hiring new dealers who have two days of stubble on their faces, or are talking to each other instead of to the players.

On the other hand, the "true Caesars dealers" continue to keep up the best traditions of customer service and being the best in the business.

While playing some video poker -- and I didn't play for that long -- a host came up to me, introduced herself and started to give me the "long talk" about what can she do for me, how am I enjoying the trip, if you need anything... everything I hate and don't want. My own host knows not to bother me when I am playing. This new host even handed me her card -- and please don't hand me a card because my hands are either on the buttons or COVERING THE CASH OUT BUTTON when someone distracts me.

I have said this before: when someone talks to me when I am playing video poker it can disrupt me in the middle of a hand and when that has happened it has caused an error in play. Also when there is a disruption I immediately suspect someone is trying to get my attention so that someone else can push the cash out button and steal my ticket. It's happened to others and it's why I am always on guard. Please don't talk to me during play, wait till I stand up from the machine.

I was able to use an offer for $250 free play plus a seventy five dollar dining credit even though I called late Thursday night. I had one meal: I called room service for War Won Ton Soup which I love at Caesars. A big bowl filled with won ton, shrimp, lobster, vegetables, meat and it's always good. I had two small bottles of diet Pepsi and a container of chocolate ice cream. With the fifteen dollar service fee and the tip that was included on the check it came to about seventy five dollars. But the dining credit did not cover the tip which I had to pay for using the credit card I presented at check in. That left about ten dollars of dining credit and I got a sandwich at the Starbucks later. I tell you this so that we all know that a seventy five dollar dining credit doesn't get you much at Caesars Palace.

With all of the cutbacks at Caesars I can't consider it to be a luxury hotel anymore. Gone are the robes, the extra soaps, the shower gel, the vanity kits with the Q-tips. They have even eliminated the plastic laundry bags if you want to send dirty clothes to their laundry. I never sent clothes to their laundry but I do admit I used to use the plastic bag to take my own dirty laundry home.

I find it interesting that the items eliminated in the cost-cutting are relatively inexpensive but go along way towards making an impression. I can halfway understand cutting the robes, although they are a big impression item. I imagine there is a fair percentage of robe savings due to damage, coffee spills and cleaning costs and all that, but cutting the other stuff seems silly.

I wonder if Mirage cut out the luxury items that I had received there in the past:

    1. Dead prostitute
    2. Naked japanese man watching porn.

I guess that early check in that I always requested didn't alwayd allow time to clean the room.

Just got off the phone with my host who happily told me "I comped your room service bill."

"Why?" I asked. "It was covered by my $75 dining credit in the promotion."

Then I was told that the computer after I checked out did not apply the promotion credit even though when I checked out over the phone I was told the dining credit was applied. So now they are trying to sort it out. Will the dining credit apply freeing up my host's comp, or will my host use a discretionary comp? Certainly it's better for me if the promotional comp is used so I "save" a discretionary comp. Stay tuned as this drama unfolds.

UPDATE: IT WAS ALL STRAIGHTENED OUT. The promotion covered the bill.
