Alan you were right to question the claim that the "freebies" are worth more than the losses. If I got a dollar from everyone who's told me that over the years, I could string'em around the globe. It's what's called "self-valuation at its best" in order to justify playing and losing too much. I also regularly hear "we were going to do SOMETHING anyway" so why not get the goods while having a chance at the gold too!? Pure music to the casino owners' ears.
The proper way to say all this without the spin and deflection would be: "We lost some overall even after all the free comps, cruises, shows, rooms, food and goodies etc., as is typical for players like us (otherwise the casinos would not remain open, obviously), and we enjoyed our trips to gamble because they are always like mini vacations for us--and we are always willing to pay a little extra and more than the non-gamblers out there who do the same as us since gambling is what we enjoy doing".
