Thread: Rio Casino Question

  1. #1
I looked on hotels.com to check the Rio pricing, as I was planning on staying there in a few weeks. I noticed they have a $28 resort fee, and I noticed they had a blurb that said, "Free wifi in lobby." No mention of in-room wifi being included in the resort fee price.

Normally, I would just call and check, but I trust people who have stayed there recently more than I do what the Rio might tell me. I don't want to have them say it was an oversight in their ad and their wifi is fine, and then get there and have it spotty or useless. I cannot afford to be without. I've run into this problem with various Red Roof Inns around the country swearing their wifi was good, and having it completely down. Perhaps the WSOP has overburdened the Rio's wifi capabilities? Perhaps ongoing security issues?

If anyone has stayed there recently, please let me know.

The resort fee at any Caesars property does NOT include WiFi in your room.

Thanks. Did not know that. Well, that makes it one wicked resort fee, then. That takes Rio off my list. Looks as if it'll be a Westgate/Orleans summer.

That pricing structure (I'll call tomorrow and get a wifi fee quote) makes it clear that you're getting stone cold reamed if you actually pay for a CET room.

I use Verizon and all the carriers probably have this: a hotspot. It's on my HTC One, and I never have to be concerned with whether a hotel or a restaurant or an RV park or a spot in the wilderness has wi-fi. It is extremely reliable and runs up to five devices at a time. If you can't be without, this is the answer.

I think the WiFI charge for a room is something like $11.95 per day. Seven Stars are not charged.

It's ridiculous. No "luxury hotel" or "high end chain" such as the Caesars casino hotels should charge these fees whether they are resort fees or wifi. But we know why they did it -- to make the "room charge" smaller, they "broke out" other fees and made them more.

But honestly, is giving your hotel guests free wifi going to kill your business? Especially since you use your room to play WSOP online poker?

You do get internet access at the Rio for the $25/day resort fee.

I'm not sure if it's only wired or if it includes WiFi, but I believe it includes 2 devices on WiFi (basic speed up to 1.5 MBps only).

    Call them to verify.

Rio is quite expensive this weekend, BTW. $239 on Friday, $269 on Saturday, and $199 on Sunday, and that's BEFORE taxes and resort fees. Ends up about $800 for just those 3 days. This is because of a popular WSOP event on Saturday.

The resort fee ($28) at the Rio does include WiFi. I asked at the front desk and was told the room number is the password. So I connected in the room and the signal was fine. I believe the password must be inserted again the next day if staying multiple days.

You enter your room number and your last name.

So anyone who knows your room # can actually steal your internet and charge you!

I don't worry about that because I get it for free anyway, but it's something to think about before freely giving out your room # to strangers (among other worries).

I should also mention that you DON'T want to stay at the Rio unless you're at the WSOP.

Bad location, poor restaurant selection, and lots of maintenance issues (especially in the Masquerade Tower).

The days I was looking at were reasonably priced. I like working out of the Rio, but the restaurants do not appeal to me, especially value-wise. I generally eat almost all of my meals at the Palms, Orleans, or the Gold Coast if staying at the Rio. I'm going to veto the Rio and stick to the Orleans or Westgate. Westgate also has a limited restaurant selection, but I do have my Benihana birthday meal coming up.

Thanks to everyone for the information to help me make these decisions.

Wait a second: could you enter ANY room number for Rio WiFi?

Only if you know the name of the guest there.

I've stayed at the Linq and many of my friends stay at the Rio every year for a pool tournament. The resorts fee includes use of the health club, local phone calls, and basic speed in-room Wi-fi, I think for one device. The basic speed is good enough for checking e-mails and other basic functions. If you need higher speed, there is an upgrade charge, but I don't remember what it is, since I stuck with the basic service. I didn't have too many problems with the Wi-fi, although it did drop a couple of times and I had to log in again. I've read complaints about the service, though, depending on your location in the hotel.

The resort fee including in-room wifi, must be a fairly new addition. I stayed there about 4 months ago, and the front desk wanted to charge some outrageous price for 24hr access.

Not bad to see the change.
