Thread: Casinos that WELCOME dice setters

  1. #1
Over on the Wizard of Vegas forum they are having another "discussion" about whether or not dice influencing is possible. And now they are hung up on the issue about where they could prove it does exist? Specifically, what casino would allow dice setting which is essential for "dice influencing."

So why don't we help them out and list the casinos where dice SETTING is allowed.

Frankly, I have seen dice setting allowed virtually everywhere -- as long as the dice reach or hit the back wall.

    Here's my experience:

Caesars Palace -- set em and throw em but get em down to the end of the table.

Red Rock -- Only played there a couple of times and never saw any comment to a player about setting the dice except when they took too long

Paris -- never saw a comment made to a player

Bellagio (where I ran into trouble) -- hit the back wall

MGM (where I got booted) -- hit the back wall

NYNY (where I got booted) -- "you can't set the dice here, sir"

Bally's -- never saw a comment made to a player

Flamingo -- never saw a comment made to a player

WYNN -- don't try sliding the dice here

Gold Strike -- when they had a craps table, never a comment made to a player

Whiskey Pete's -- never a comment made to a player

I think they pretty much have their pick. I have played all over the Strip and rarely experienced any heat or verbal reprimands. The only vivid experience I've had was about 15 years ago on a riverboat in Illinois when I was on a hot roll and tossing the bones into the opposite corner. The stickgirl tells me, "you have to toss the dice straight down the table, not into the corners..." I'm sure it was just to unnerve me and get my toss out of sync.

I've set dice at the following properties with no heat:

    1) Mandalay Bay
    2) Luxor
    3) Excalibur
    4) Tropicana
    5) MGM Grand
    6) NYNY
    7) Monte Carlo
    8) Aria
    9) Cosmopolitan
    10) Bellagio
    11) Planet Hollywood
    12) Paris
    13) Ballys
    14) Flamingo
    15) Mirage
    16) Cromwell
    17) The Linq and the table in O'Sheas
    18) Harrah's
    19) Venetian
    20) Palazzo
    21) Downtown Grand
    22) Orleans

I think it may come down to individual personalities and one's companions/status. Unruly and obnoxious companions can grate a boxman.

If one is well behaved, hits the backwall on most every toss, has a players card and is a "good" customer should have little to no heat,
with the exception of the occasional demented pit boss/boxman whose sole mission in life is to screw with people.

Alan, I read your article on your "banned/no setting" experience at Bellagio and NYNY. If I'm not mistaken that was twelve or so years ago when it happened.
I recognize you are probably a consumer who chooses to take their business elsewhere when mistreated, so you probably haven't been back to those places again.

My experience at both Bellagio and NYNY was no heat (within the last two years). I'm a small fry though. My buy-in is maybe at most $500 to $1K. I visit LV 9 or more times a year.

    dicepunk thanks for posting.

I did return to Bellagio about two years ago just as an experiment to see if anything would happen if I played craps again. I bought in for only $60 -- did not use a card -- and nothing happened.

Frankly, I was expecting the worst -- that they would have had me tagged with facial recognition software.

I have been tempted to play at Bellagio again because I like their tables and they have $10 games. But in the past year or so, Caesars has dropped many tables to $10 (even $5) and so there is no need to cross the street.

I also like the Paris tables at $10.

Even when I started playing over 25 years ago many players set the dice. No one ever said anything. Setting the dice while the first step in dice control is not dice control. Almost all setters are merely regular players.

Yes, there may be some casinos today where dice setting is not allowed. These casinos would be run by (I hate to be harsh) ploppies. They are also probably the same casinos that think dice controllers are trying to miss the back wall while performing the almost impossible "kill shot."
