Thread: Bank roll

  1. #1
I have a few questions about bankroll that I know many have answered before but please bear with me.
    1. If you only go to LV once or twice a year at the most, would you take your entire gambling bank roll with you? Keep in mind that this is recreational and has no bearing on daily living/family expense. Also keep in mind that it is possible to replete within a year by working a few hours OT here and there.
    2. How many gambling sessions do you plan a day and would you divide the trip bank roll by the product of daily sessions and days at casino to obtain bank roll per session.
    3. Would you constantly readjust your session BR as you progress into your vacation or keep it status quo?
    4. If you plan for a 1.5 hr session, would you extend it I'd you session BR was not depleted and you were not tired, or would you be disciplined enough to walk at the end of the time.
    5. Play craps with PL 2x odds and placing 6/8, is your session BR 10 times what you have at risk with those bets?
    Thanks

I think bankroll and session amounts are all personal decisions that only you can decide. My #1 goal is to play long enough that I give myself a chance to win while having fun.

If you have a job that pays for OT, I'd stick with nickels or quarters and play craps sparingly. The rest is based on what you do with that advice.

Rob forgets that there are bets on the craps table that are better than any bets in video poker.

Even the "jackpot bet" on the craps table which is the 6-point Firebet has better odds than catching a royal flush.

The 6-Point Firebet hits once in about 6700 shooters, while the royal hits about once in 42,000 tries. So many a $5 bet on 6700 shooters and you have a better chance of getting that $5,000 Firebet Jackpot, then playing 42,000 $1 hands of video poker to hit a $4,000 royal.

Frankly, if you think you are a DI, then you should only make two bets at the craps table: passline at the minimum and Firebet at the maximum. I did that twice at Caesars when two shooters both hit 5-numbers on the Firebet for a payoff of $2500 on each Firebet, plus the payoffs on the passline. Total outlay was $35 for each shooter because it was a $25 table. So, the bottom line was I won about $2600 plus change betting only a total of $35 on each shooter, or a total of $5200 betting a total of $70 on two shooters.

This is my first post after some time away, taking care of babies unfortunately.

I think that rob is insinuating that you are a low earner and this don't have much of a bank roll. we don't know this, and I have friends who work in my business, IT, Who are eligible for OT who earn 200K+.

I go to Vegas once a year now and absolutely take my entire year bankroll. I play VP, craps and as Alan said, I have fun with disposable income. as long as you can afford what you bet, choose what you like and go for it. don't borrow, as I'm sure you don't, but it's a personal limit.

I'll take sitting at my own machine after cleaning it off over standing at a craps table next to a bunch of coughing & sneezing half-wits touching the filthy dice, any day.

Someone who mentions they can get a bankroll from overtime is not an OT-hogging IT yuppie.

    Work? What's work? Haven't held a job since 2005.

Rob might be interested to know that one of the best dice influencers I know is a surgeon. By the Rob that's a medical doctor.

Rob. I make a decent living, enough to provide for my family and for vacations. The OT is only to replenish my bankroll if I were to drain it completely dry. I don't like slots and have never ventured into the world of VP--although I would like to try because of the low HE. I used to count cards and play BJ but with the amount of times that I go to the casino, it was to tedious. If I play BJ now it is strictly basic strategy. I also used to play low limit HE ($1-2 NL up to $2-5 NL) but I go to LV with friends who don't play poker so I don't want them to wait around for me. I have let my skills deteriorate in both games because I don't have a lot of opportunities to hone my skills. I am not an advantage player but a knowledgeable one. I currently play craps because it is exciting, especially when the dice are hot. Hopefully that will give you enough of a glimpse at the type of person/gambler that I am.

My question still stands though. Suppose that I have a $3000 bank roll for the whole trip of 6 days. With 2 sessions a day, that would give me a $250 session bank roll. I was thinking about starting out at $5 crap ($5 PL, 2x odds, place 6/8 for total of $27 at risk). If I manage to win or keep status quo, I will go to $10 craps after 2 days. Does this sound reasonable? If I stay around the Flamingo and LV boulevard corner AND want to play at Mlife facility, where can I play craps for $5?

And I'll bet he knows how to influence the scalpels too.

So how much OT does he make?

Exactly how "hot" do dice get? Or can that be influenced too?

I am pretty sure you can find 5 dollar tables at Excelsior, Luxor, Monte Carlo, & NYNY. Those are all MLife Properties. However, those 5 dollar tables fill up fast! Ballys consistently runs a 5 dollar game on two tables...even on the weekends. But that is not an MLife property.

As for your bankroll, I am in the same boat as you are. I make it to Vegas/Laughlin about 2 times a year, one visit per each spot. I have a separate poker bankroll for my local card clubs...very tiny because I am just learning. With my Vegas trips though I bring what I can afford. I also try to limit my stays to 3 nights max which gives me 500-1000 per day. I'm a recreational gambler though, far from professional.

    Thanks JamieV,

I go to LV for the food and friendship (I have friends from different cities fly in to meet me) more than the gambling as I have casinos about 3 hrs from where I live. If I can make it to the last 3 days of my trip, I will up my daily session amount. BTW, is the Bacchanal Buffet the best in LV (barring price)? What about if you take price into account?

  13. #13
About Baccahanal: unless you continually chow down for two hours (your expected time) it's overpriced. I'd rather order off a menu but I go there with buffet fans.

  14. #14
For price and quality, I'll stick to Boyd property buffets.

I do have an offer for Gold Coast for 3 free nights and $100 free bets. Read on line that their chinese restaurant Ping Pang Pong is pretty good.

I'm with Alan in regards to the Bacchanal. I think you're better off sticking to a sit-down restaurant. I have 3 places I ALWAYS go to when in town.

    Palace Station Oyster Bar.

    Ballys Steakhouse.

Chicagos Brewery in the 4 Queens.

  17. #17
You and I are in agreement about PS Oyster Bar. I try to go there twice when I'm in town. I have never tried Ballys Steakhouse. What so different about that as opposed to any other steakhouse?

On a different subject, for all the TR gurus out there. I am a Platinum member via credit card and have over 15K RC points. I could not find anywhere online at the TR site how to use those points.

If my math is right, 15,000 Reward Credits is $150 of comps. Go to a Caesars property and have a meal, or a couple of meals. But be careful, as there are a couple of eateries that do not accept Reward Credits.

The other option is to exchange the points for free play but the exchange rate sucks so stick to having a meal or two.

Their food and service has always been excellent, but the rooms at the Gold Coast are on the dumpy side. It's one of those places where you automatically check for bed bugs the moment you get into your room.

I've stayed at GC. Never had an issue. You might get a bad view of the facade out front though.
