Thread: Julian Bond died

Julian Bond died. I remember back in the 1960s how he was almost drafted to be the Democratic candidate for Vice President but he was too young and the Constitution needed an amendment for him to serve.

In 1974 I interviewed him when he was visiting Syracuse and I was working at my first TV job. I told him he should run for President. When he got back to Atlanta he thanked me for the interview and said (jokingly, I'm sure) if he were elected President I would be his White House Press Secretary.

He was an amazing man. And I those of you too young to know him will read about him and his place in history.

Best to not be read about, and to take your place in the future. (Why does everyone want to die with a passion? Like the phrase, popularity is the catch of death.)

I remember him fondly from my youth. Several years ago i was working as a talent escort at the NAACP Image Awards. I was assigned to escort Julian Bond and i couldn't believe it. It was such an honor.

Now wouldn't it have been nice if our dumb president said that JB was his idol for 20 years instead of that white & Jew-hating moron "Rev" Jerimiah Wright?
