Thread: Palms Humbles Themselves With A CET Assist

  1. #1
Here's one for the gambling ages. Maybe some here know or don't know that up until 2009 I was a BIG player at the Palms. So much so that for two years from 2007 I was given Legend status--a card by invitation only, and it's not on the books. I've had many memorable wins there and several large losses. I did visit there twice since in 2011 but I didn't play above $5. My wins were minimal.

Tonight out of the blue I got a call from some host at the Palms. She said she worked for CET in the past and somehow knew I put in some big play in the southern states and at Tahoe a few years ago. So I got this offer: $500 in food, 3 comp nights in a Jr. suite, and $4500 in free play, and it's good the rest of 2015. I am a nothing player there now since I haven't been there in almost four years, but the offer included a top level card whatever that is now.

This is an opportunity to soak them for $500 in dining and walk out with at least +$3000 in cash. I'll be doing this later this year. Of course they want me to meet & greet, exchange false pleasantries with their execs and the useless weenie host, and lose all the freeplay along with at least another $20k. And most people would do exactly that. But what I'll do is check in, talk fake turkey with whoever they send to shake my hand and welcome me back again, go to Nine or whatever their fancy expensive restaurant is these days and sign off on as close to $500 as I can with good wine, then hit the 25c thru $2 machines and slowly build my profit with their generous free play offer. Oh, and then I'll leave--with a bottle of barely touched expensive wine and thousands of their former dollars. I won't even spend the night there.

Welcome back Rob! (and all this, while mickeycrimm panhandles for toothpaste in dicklick, Montana.

Can't wait to see Alan dissect this post. It's gonna be a combination of incredulous and jealousy. Rob you better be prepared to show some sort of documentation for this offer. Or unfortunately it's gonna be labeled complete BS.

Sorry to disappoint you but I can't. I have no knowledge of Rob's play at the Palms, I have no knowledge of their tier system, I have no knowledge of their offers for players and to be honest the only time I was ever in the Palms was to bring a date back to her hotel room there after she met me over at Caesars. (She was a RN from LA attending a medical convention in Vegas and I flew up to meet her for dinner.) I never made a single bet at the Palms.

I do know that casinos sometimes make "come back" offers that are pretty generous.

Running $4500 in free play through 8/5 Bonus (if they have it at the Palms) could certainly give Rob $4,000 in cash to go home with.

This question has come up before. Do you do as Rob says and play .25 to $2.00, or do you play $5.00 or even $25.00 with the free play cash and go for the big score.

I'd just run the $4500 through the best quarter game there then leave. I don't even want the possibility of a W2G. Yeah it might take a few hours, so what. But that just me.

That is a reasonable approach. I am a gambler and would go big, even if I am more likely to lose the whole thing.

A couple places I go to allow you to turn comp dollars into free play. I usually just find the best quarter JoB or BP game and exhaust the FP, cash out when done and leave.

At $1.25 per hand (on a quarter machine) $4500 of free play would mean 3,600 hands.
If Rob plays 600 hands per hour (a fair pace for accurate play) he would have to play 6 hours in all.

Next: what are the pay tables on 25-cent video poker and would Rob be happy playing it?

Since I don't know the set-up at the Palms, do their 25-cent machines accept free play? I've been at casinos where free play only works on $1 and higher denomination games.

Personally, I'd play $2 and $5 full pay bonus.

I wonder how Rob treats his all important "win goal" when he is playing with free play?

Reasonable to only play quarters, but I'll play multiple sessions of 25c thru $2 ARTT. If it were just $500 I'd just play 25c but there's more opportunity with ARTT and that much free play. My guess is that I'll check in late afternoon because it's been my experience that you have to go to the slot club to get free play loaded, rest, have a late dinner, then play overnight like I always used to do. I expect to be gone before the sun rises.

Alan, they used to accept free play on all machines but those 25c FPDW machines which I'd never play anyway. I won't play above $2. This is about maximizing the free play, not looking for a huge hit. I don't plan on going back. The win goal will be as it always is on ARTT at these four denoms.--$100/session.

I don't know about the FPDW, but other quarter games do accept FP. I don't like the variance of DW games.

The 100%+ machines at Palms are all 25c or 50c. Too slow. I guess 50c could work if Rob has 3-4 hours to waste grinding them, but I would probably play $1 if I were in his shoes.

The NSUD (Not So Ugly Deuces) 99.73% machine has a $1 denomination. That's probably what I'd go for.

Why in the hell are you people always in a hurry? Rushing to blow the money elsewhere? And who said he has to do it all in one sitting? He's got three days.

Also, 10 hands a minute seems awfully slow to me.

That's not slow at all. That's 6 seconds per hand.

I don't consider myself a slow player (except for taking the occasional pause to insert "drama" into a big draw before I hit the button), and I tend to get through only about 500 hands per hour -- which would be one every 7 seconds.

I usually use the middle speed, if the game allows you to adjust it, and I'm getting about a hand every 3 to 4 seconds. I'm not a turbo player either. I've had numerous $1000 fp sessions and it usually only takes me around an hour. Obviously some games types like spin poker or ten play are slower than others.

I don't play fast and I'd never play a single denomination only with no ryhme or reason or structured strategy with this much free play. I also hate sitting at machines for more than an hour, but for this deal I'll sit there all night if I have to.

I just timed myself on 8/5 BP. Set at middle speed I was going a hand every 2.6 seconds.

Does speed make you a better player?

  18. #18
    I wasn't going fast.

At one hand every 3 seconds that's 1200hph. In vp that's considered very fast. But there's no point in playing that fast anyway because within an hour you will begin to exponentially make errors you don't even know about and therefore, will deny. Frank Kneeland was big on claiming 2000hph on two dopey machines. He never had any money and disappeared faster than his last dollar did. I witnessed him making optimal play errors faster than I could count them.

Yeah, 2000 per hour I'm not trying.
