Thread: Should your bets work during the come out roll in craps?

  1. #1
Over on the Wizard's forum a reader asks if the "odds" on "come bets" should be working during the come out roll?

In Vegas casinos (and to the best of my knowledge at all casinos) the "odds bets" are turned "off" during the come out roll because most players want a "winner 7" which would wipe out the "come bets." So, by turning off the "odds" the players with come bets would only lose the "flat bet" and not the "odds."

There was some discussion about this -- and the Wizard says to let the odds "work."

I always thought that the odds bets should be off because mathematically the 7 is always more likely to show on every roll and this includes the come out.

This also applies to place bets and hardways: you turn them off during the come out roll.

Does anyone have these bets working on the come out?

I know some players who have the hardways working during the come out, but they also bet a "big red" to "insure" the hardways should the 7 roll. Personally I don't do that.

At least dalawa had the courtesy to reply to your thread. If it wasn't for him this thread would get zero replies. By banning him you're just showing your itchy trigger finger again. But of course for Rob you'll go back and reinstate. Cause your Shitty forum needs more traffic.

Crab Cakes how would you know he replied and was banned? Thanks for joining and for your first post.

PS. There was no courtesy in his post. It was more of his trash. If it had any value he and it would still be here.

I was about to reply to your thread when I saw his post. It was "interesting" to say the least. Then poof it was hit with the ban hammer. Easy pzy to figure out.

You said it was interesting? It was a personal attack on me and had nothing to do with the question. Don't waste my time. Banned.

If I have come bets out, my odds are turned off on the come out roll. My hardways are off on the come out. If I have parlayed a hardway bet, I will hop that hardway on the come out.

You hop for an amount smaller than your all day hardway, right?

Yes. I might start my hardway ( a hard 4 or 10) at 3 and 1. If it hits, I make it 25 and 8. On a come out roll I'll put 4 and 1 on the hardway. So if it hits, I'm paid $120 and the dealers $30.
If I haven't parlayed yet, I hop the hard 4 and 10 for $1 each. It gives me a leg up on a parlay.

Lisa, i like your aggressive approach to pressing/parlaying your hard ways. Also, your method of tipping dealers. I do the same.

Alan, i used to occasionally work my hardways and corresponding place numbers on comeouts, but only when i was the shooter. I would use the hardways set. Had some success with it but in the end i stopped, feeling the need to hedge or not hedge against the 7, besides being a distraction i believe i was losing more than winning. If i have a parlayed hardway(s) of $10 or more i do still hop that number(s) on the comeout with the all day not working.
Honestly never thought of working come bet odds before. When i do start betting the come i'll usually end up with several numbers and odds. Then i would feel that i would have to start hedging again. That is something to consider.

Frankly I am surprised that over on the WOV forum there is such support for letting the odds work. But then, they have a different view on a lot of things such as dice sides being counted more than once. LOL

Craps is just another casino sucker game. You won't catch me dead there unless I'm using a match play or free bet coupon. Odds only increase variance which I want none of.

I can't argue with you. All the money I've ever won at video poker has been lost to craps.

I've known card counters who've done the same thing. But if you enjoy the game, by all means continue...

If you treat it as a skill game, you will play it differently and you possibly can win. If you treat it as a game of luck -- you can't win because it's negative expectation.
