Thread: Caesars gives players a (small) incentive to play at the end of the year

  1. #1
We have several times discussed the law of diminishing returns with the Total Rewards program.

Simply put, once you reach Seven Stars, there isn't much incentive to play beyond that, because the value of the further rewards (signature experiences) is pathetically bad.

But it's not just Seven Stars. Even if you are a lower tier, there's still little incentive to play at the end of the year, as your tier points will be zeroed on January 1. So if you're a diamond with 42,000 points, and you don't plan to play enough to reach 80,000, there's no point to rack up further tier points, and you might as well wait until January.

To combat this, Caesars introduced a new bonus tier credit program that earns you points for NEXT year on top of the ones this year, for play after October 1.

That's not a bad idea, except like all decent Caesars ideas, they screwed it up in execution.

You get only a 20% bonus on your play, and it caps at 20,000.

So if you earn 10,000 tiers from Oct 1-Dec 31, you will get 2,000 bonus tiers for 2016.

Or if you earn 100,000 tiers in that time period, you will get 20,000 (the maximum you can get).

    Big deal.

Honestly that's still not very much incentive, especially when one can just wait and earn 100% of the value on January 1 and beyond.

They should have made it something like a 50% bonus, and they shouldn't have cappd it.

The 20% DOES apply to bonus tiers earned (that is, you earn a bonus on the bonus), but who cares?

I see what they're trying to do here, but if it's only 20%, and if the maximum is 20k tiers, this isn't doing anyone much good.

I was surprised by this email: Total Rewards is giving players a bonus on the points earned during the 4th Quarter as a head start towards 2016 tier credits.

If they have a valid email address the bonus is doubled.

Earn 500 tier points and you get a 50 point bonus in 2016. If they have your email address the bonus is doubled so you will start 2016 with 100 points.

The maximum bonus is 20,000 bonus points added to 2016.

I think it's an inexpensive way to keep the loyalty ball rolling for Caesars, and I think it's an inexpensive way for them to be sure they have valid email addresses.

This is for Tier points only and not Reward Credits so there is no "cash value" but you do get a head start on earning whatever tier level for next year.

I think it's also an indication that they are still pulling tricks out of their bag to hold on to as many players as possible who might think about defecting because of the bankruptcy and the cuts in offers and promotions.

Great minds think alike, Dan. I just posted something about this in a different thread. I agree. It's much ado about nothing. But some players might fall for it.

I just merged the two threads.

I just don't understand why they are doing such silly things like capping the bonus.

If a player wants to run 750k worth of points in these next 3 months in order to get Seven Stars for 2016 via that bonus, THEY SHOULD BE THRILLED.

The other weird thing is that you only earn half as many bonus points if they don't have a valid e-mail address on file for you on 12/31/15.

    What?!

Why even associate those two things?

I am underwhelmed by this CET offer. What is Total Rewards thinking? Rather than add to my Seven Stars tier credits, the next time I am in a CET casino, my wife and I will play on her Diamond card as there is NO substantial benefit to go more than 150,000 tier credits which is the min for Seven Stars.

They want the email addresses for marketing purposes... But how stupid, they emailed it to us because they have our email addresses!

I decided not to play at Caesars (other than poker tournaments) for the remainder of the year.

MLife is October 1st to September 30th so going to do the majority of my play there for the remainder of the year.

If CET was smart (and you know they aren't), they would trash the ridiculous "Seven Star by calendar year" concept and just make the whole thing on a rolling period of 12 months. This would somewhat put an end to the situation where people quit playing because they've already attained their desired status for the year.

So rather than your status being dictated by what you've done in the calendar year, it would be what you've done in the past 12 months.

So for example, you would be Diamond on October 1 if you have earned 15,000 tiers between October 1, 2014 and October 1, 2015. Then on November 1, you would remain Diamond if you earned 15,000 tiers between November 1, 2014 and November 1, 2015. And so on. They could do this on a monthly basis.

The difference here is that people who earn Seven Stars in March would feel an incentive to still play for the remainder of the year, because the heavy play from January-March would fall off as soon as the next January-March came around, yet play from the summer and fall would still remain when determining your status.

Yes, they would still have comp whores earning it all at once and then shutting down until the last minute, but even there less time would be involved, and these people would start to feel the pressure to re-earn it much earlier.

CET's stupid zeroing of tier credits on January 1st ends up providing a disincentive to play at the end of the year.

Instead of fixing that flaw, they provide a near-meaningless 20% bonus on 4th quarter play, and go as far to even cap it at 20k points -- as if someone putting in a ton of action in the 4th quarter is a bad thing and must be stopped.

    They really are clueless sometimes.

Caesars is doing another thing to promote emails... daily drawings for Reward Credits.

One winner of 100,000 Reward Credits every day from October 19 - December 20, 2015
Four Grand Prize Winners of 1,000,000 Reward Credits each on December 20, 2015

Clearly Caesars wants you to read its emails and so to enter you must click on their emails they sent weekly.

12 month rolling period would make sense and probably even out some play. But I would guess that many people would have trouble understanding it.

Wouldn't be that hard to program into the system, but their advanced booking systems might have to look into the future to see if you would still qualify for a benefit or comp.

So when are the year end bonus points supposed to show up in 2016?

  12. #12
    Hopefully by Labor Day 2016.

    But according to Total Rewards:

"9. The Tier Credit Bonus awarded pursuant to this Offer will be calculated after December 31, 2015 and automatically added to Participant’s Tier Score for 2016 no later than January 31, 2016."

Just in case anyone else is interested: I checked today January 17 and the bonus isn't there yet. I will check back at the end of the month.

Just saw the end of year tier bonus had been posted to my account.

Thanks for posting this. I have been credited with the bonus also and I now have enough points to be Diamond in 2017 without any additional play in 2016. That's a nice option should I decide not to seek Seven Stars again.

My belief is and always has been that once you reach Diamond there's little reason to continue playing at CET. The bang-for-the-buck is significantly reduced as you continue playing and it's only worth it to those who want to feel like a slot club superstar.

I got 10,000 tiers added for no apparent reason, even though I didn't play at all from Oct 1-Dec 31.

    Anyone have any idea why?

Achieving Diamond Aspirations Lv. 1 added 5,000 TCs. [NOLA]

I got the full 30K TCs credited, as advertised (and 5 days early). So only 120K to earn this calendar year to achieve 7 Stars. Not bad.
