Thread: Craps Etiquette Falls to a New LOW

  1. #1
I meant to write about this a couple of weeks ago, but got sidetracked.

We've discussed how traditional craps etiquette has disappeared. Gone are the days when new players would buy into a game only before a new come-out roll.

Gone are the days when a boxman would tell a new player who wanted to buy in to wait.

Gone are the days when players would not mention the "bad word" and would call it "the devil" or "big red."

Gone are the days when players would give the shooter room.

But recetnly, I saw a casino host, of all people, exhibit a new LOW for craps etiquette.

This host was a foreign language host at Bellagio and he was showing a European couple the various games in the casino. That's when he came to the craps table I was on. This host and the couple were standing at the far end of the table, opposite the shooter. And the host had his hands INSIDE the "bowl" which is the table, pointing to the various pass line and don't pass line explaining what these bets were. By the grace of the great craps God, the dice missed his hand. The host didn't even react to the dice bouncing and flying by his hand. And when the boxman at the table said "do I have to tell you about craps etiquette?" this host didn't react and kept talking to the couple.

    Geesh.

You should have done what I do when someone will not keep their hands above the rail. A high hard one at their head usually either gets me tossed, or more often, gets his hands back.

Not a bad strategy regnis. I wasn't the shooter in this case. But I could see what was about to happen and didn't know what to do or say.

Just stand there with your arms crossed glaring at the dealers...

There are other tables with no players that they can explain things to.

    Too cryptic. Explain this.

I think his point is that there are plenty of empty tables for a host to use to explain craps...he doesn't need to use an active table.

If this happens on an active table, just stand there with arms crossed glaring at the dealers, looking pissed off with a WTF scowl.

Or through the bones at their head.

If someone has there hands in or are still making bets, I pull the dice down and wait. Then the dealers will usually say something.

It doesn't matter. IMO, just buy-in mid-roll and lay the point. All these yuppies complaining about "hands" or "mid-roll buy-ins" are being ignorant. Quit trying to control the dice, your baby doesn't need new shoes, and nobody cares about your cool "four one for the po'h one" rhymes.

You must be a dealer RS. And a bitter one at that. We used to freeze out dealers that were against us--no tips. And if it was just one dealer, we would tell the rest of the crew no tips tonight because of him. We also had dealers removed if necessary.

IMO it does matter. We had a guy placed in the corner towards where I shot so that there were no hands or chips in my way. It ensured a clean uninterrupted shot. Well...... that and the high hard one to the head.
