Thread: APs fear reporters

Dan, in all fairness, what did you expect me to do with that information? Send it to you via Private Message? Or sell it to the highest bidder? I came across public information because I looked and saw what happened. The only fair thing for me to do would be to report it. If this were the stock market, not reporting it but taking action on it first, would have been a federal crime called insider trading.

You made an outrageous claim that needs to be verified.
Many do. I'm not going to give you that info though. You'll have to travel and find them out yourself.

I might be willing to sell information for that $90k in your bank account.

Like I said in the other thread: you are asking the wrong questions.

Now there's a goldmine of information that continues to flow as if he were talking to the WoV liberal misfits.

I've said this a million times......RS__ goes out of his way to give useful info by any means possible.

If you see a mistake that the casino is making that favors the player, you should either tell people you like who might want to take advantage of it, or tell no one, knowing that at least various unknowns will get some extra money out of it.

I can't possibly see a reason to run to the casino to help them close a loophole that (gasp) allows the player to have the edge for once.

I'm definitely with Dan on this one. Let me give a real life example from 20 years ago. The Stardust and Circus-Circus are next to each other, their sports books within a few yards walking distance (past the Westward Ho). It's Saturday and the Stardust is extremely busy with college football. Circus-Circus not so much.

I get my seat at the Stardust, then stroll to Circus-Circus, where the manager lets me see the weather report, mainly because he likes me. It's snowing in Colorado. The Colorado total is going down fast, already two points lower at Circus-Circus than the Stardust. Of course, I walk back to the Stardust, see that they are too busy to monitor the total of an obscure game, and get ready to launch the max on the Under.

Now Alan, if you're with me as I walk to the counter, are you seriously going to inform the Stardust they have made a mistake before I make my wager? Is it your duty to inform them that their total is off vis-a-vis other sports books?

This will come as a shock to some of you. My duty is first to my website readers and TV viewers -- they are my customers.

Let's go back to the progressive machine at Rincon that did not reset when a royal was hit. I put the news out on this website for my readers to see. I did not run to casino management. I have no control if casino management read it here -- but I did not run to tell them. I was there when it happened and said nothing to the casino managers or staff. I could have -- but I am not a policeman for the casino. I am a reporter and I have customers who come to this website for news about casinos so here is where I chose to reveal what I discovered.

And when Rincon dumped progressive money from a slot machine onto the $5 video poker progressive and made that jackpot soar -- I also reported it here even before I got a chance to play it myself.

That is what honest reporters do. And it's what I do because I care about my readers and followers because they are my customers.

Sorry if you can't deal with it. It's the journalistic ethics I grew up with and practiced for more than 40 years.

Redietz: did you discover the advantage or did I? If you discovered it, it was not "mine" to reveal. I would protect my sources meaning you -- because it was your information first. I would reveal it only when you gave me the green light to reveal it, or when it no longer mattered.

Over the years I've kept many secrets and even faced jail time because I refused to give info to the police and prosecutors when under subpoena. I stood my ground on my 1st Amendment rights. I take them very seriously. But with the right to withhold confidential information comes the obligation for fair release of information to the public and not to benefit from that information.

That response makes sense to me. The issue, as you said, with the football total, is whether I showed it to you or if you discovered it on your own.

P.S. Just so I'm not accused of "Mayweathering," I must state for the record that that particular Under lost in the snow. Yes, it was a real story. I whacked the Under at the Stardust, then went to Circus-Circus and bought back half of the wager on the Over because I had a five point middle shot. The Over won and I lost money.
