Thread: 2015 Great Gift Wrap-up dates established

  1. #1
November 5-9 at Paris Las Vegas

    December 2-6 at Caesars Palace

I wonder if they will further degrade the value of GGWU points this year.

I was curious to see if the www.greatgiftwrapup.com website showed anything for 2015 and all that's there is info from 2014.

In 2014 a Macy's $100 gift card was 35,000 points. I wanted to check on the value of the Shell gift cards from last year -- but they no longer appear on the site.

I just received an email reminder about the 2015 dates and went to the GGWU site and the Shell gift cards are listed. Same value as last year. 35,000 points for a $100 gas card. I hope it doesn't change.

Just checked the GGWU site again. More products have been added but the GIFT CARDS section has been removed.

Just got an email about the GGWU. It says that reservations are required for shopping. Is this new? Or am I misunderstanding it? The first year I went to the GGWU I made the mistake of booking under it and then realized that it wasn't necessary and since then I always try to book under a freeplay offer, although that is very difficult as they don't usually fall on, or around, those dates. Sometimes I can squeeze one in if I go to the first or last day of the wrap up.

I received that but I am sure it applies only to the hotel offer. In some years I just drove up for the day and didn't stay in any hotel.

As of last year, you couldn't take advantage of a freeplay offer during the days of GGWU. I have heard of someone arriving for their stay on the last day of GGWU and also able to book under freeplay.

Does anyone know how the points are calculated? I'm 7 star, and it says I have 883 gift points, which seems... low.

Hi Guy thanks for joining and for posting.

You get ONE GGWU point for each TIER POINT earned from play. This means that BONUS TIER POINTS do not give you GGWU points. So for example if you played one day and earned 5,000 tier points and received a bonus of 10,000 tier points, you would only get 5,000 GGWU points.

Now, about your 883 gift points: have you played more than 883 actual tier points this year? If you haven't played much this year and are a 7 Stars "carryover" from last year -- then 883 might be appropriate. But if you've already earned thousands and thousands of tier points this calendar year (2015) then something is wrong.

First I would check the GGWU website again. Refresh the page, etc.

Then if your tier score for this year shows XXXX points, I would call your host or Total Rewards or even the GGWU department and tell them. Luckily, there is plenty of time to fix a discrepency like this.

    Hey Alan,

Thanks for the response. Actually, JustaDimind's post clued me in; almost all of my play this year was at Cherokee, so no points for me.

I get a million offers for the GGWU in the mail but I also have no GGWU points as you don't earn them in Chicago or Indiana.

Ahh....the Great Gift Wrap-up from CET! The time of year nearly everyone who plays at most Caesars' properties get sweaty palms, racing hearts, and yet another reason to make a trip to their favorite casino....and the opportunity to self-value all their wonderful gifts so they can manufacture a gambling year they're proud of.

    I'll watch re-runs of Hogan's Heroes.

I enjoy the GGWU especially when I get $1,000 in Shell gas cards plus his and hers bikes, some kitchen stuff plus free play as I did last year.

35k points for $100 gift card?

Wouldn't that be $350,000 coin-in? I've never attended one of these GGWU events before. But if that's how much I need to play, I sure as hell ain't playing.

It's "icing on the cake" and the GGWU points are in addition to regular reward credits. Hey, if you don't play that much then you get squat. But if you play a lot the extra benefits are good to collect.

You are not required to lose -- so all of the APs out there should be racking up their big profits at the tables and video poker machines AND cashing in at the GGWU. Right?

  17. #17
The AP's most likely aren't using a TR card.

The only thing comparable I've chased was a calendar that comes with $20 free play coupons a month for a total of $240 fp. Only had to earn 250 points. I played it on nickel 7/5 BP where it took $8 to earn a point out $2000 for all 250. Did this on one of my clean cards and a friends. So I got $480 total fp at a machine cost, (theoretical return if you will) of about $80. Actually profited by hitting a royal and came out ahead by $150 or so.

The gas gift card adds almost nothing to the return....it adds 0.028%. That's not "icing on the cake", that's less than a bread crumb.

The only people who play that much are the biggest 7-stars players.

I'm thinking this can't be possible....there has to be something else, like some sort of bonus or multiplier.

Ain't no way 1/3 of a million coin in is deserving of such a microscopic $100 card.

There are bonuses during the year but they are minimal. I had more than one million points last year.

I just don't understand why there is a limit to how much APs can win? APs should be cleaning up at the GGWU since they are beating the casinos every day.
