We also have dozens of people here who are either invisible or are not registered. Our one day record here was more than 2000.

Its the cyber fights with Arci and Rob :-)

The only interesting part of this thread is how the WoV mathletes are in a tizzy over the 18 rolls. There they are overloaded with confused & self-righteous agnostics and atheists, stating simply that because there is no "scientific evidence" that God exists, they cannot and will not believe that he does.

Yet when told of an eyewitness to 18 straight rolls of 11--which is scientifically possible because their sacred math says it is--they hypocritically claim that because the odds are so much against it, it is absolutely not possible. Well, so far no one has seen God and there is no math that can claim he exists. But there IS math that can prove 18 straight rolls of 11 does exists.

Someone here claims to have seen those 18 rolls. Reality backed up by mathematical possibility, yet the geniuses claim it just isn't possible. If someone claims to see God, what then would that collection of egotistical clowns say? It's beyond impossible?

And only 389 of those were Rob.

That happens to almost all forums -- it's an error.

According to the independent website traffic tracking site quantcast.com our site has more traffic than WOV. In fact WOV doesn't even show up.

Careful, you're going to make Eliot Jacobson cry again.

As for whether god exists or not. It's 100,000,000% more likely Alan saw the 18 yo's in a row than some diety being real. Only suckers fall for religion.

Yeah, I'm a sucker. I believe in God.

I pray in synagogue, I pray when I go to church with a friend, I pray when I am at home, I certainly prayed a lot when I was in need of a kidney transplant, and I pray all the time when I am in casinos.

    I don't buy it.

Can you be more than 100% more likely?

If a math person had been there, they would likely have placed a bet after the first 5 throws (that's already almost 2 million to one). They would have concluded the dice were loaded and tried to take advantage. The interesting thing about this is had anyone bet on 11 vs. whatever you actually did, it could very well have changed the timing and the next 11 wouldn't have shown up.

If there had been more experienced craps players like me (we craps players are terribly superstitious) after only 3 of the yo's they would have taken all of their bets off the table because the superstition is that after three horn numbers a 7 (the devil) is coming. After 3 horn numbers I usually start praying for and calling out "good number now, good number, throw a good number shooter."

In case you missed it -- three times during this run the stick man stopped to examine the dice.

I was at a crap table at the old Las Vegas Hilton where a shooter threw 5 hard tens before he rolled a seven. They weren't consecutive, he just rolled 5 5 five times before he crapped out. I had $10 on all the hardways and made a bit of money. After the third hard ten hit, I parlayed my bet and caught it 2 more times.

I try to stay a humble agnostic. The criteria for an existing god has retreated over the millennia to the point where's it's not refutable. If it's not refutable, no sense taking a hard stand on it, unless you draw the conclusion that taking such a stand does societal good, which I think would be Penn and Teller's position. I don't have their brains or their resources. Some people draw energy from the fact that the majority of the world is technically insane, and they feel they are not. That particular perception provides me no solace, no energy, and some bad dreams.

No offense--just a pet peeve of mine. But you don't "crap out" in craps. You seven out. Rolling craps does not end your roll or wipe out your bets on the various numbers.

Although I'm an agnostic with atheist leanings, I am far more reluctant and careful about saying only suckers fall for religion or a deity.

I personally know two mathematics PhD's who are church goers. One is a tenured college professor and the other is a number theorist/cryptographer. Both of them would laugh at Rob's video poker progressions just as you do.

I can think of another math PhD from college I personally didn't know, but I am pretty certain he was also a believer from what I remember of him in class.

Alexander Grothendieck was one of the world's leading mathematicians from the 20th century and he was widely thought to be a believer, as well.

You don't have to believe in God or Heaven. Just hope there isn't a Devil or Hell.

My father's side was Baptist, my mother's side Methodist. I grew up in both Churches. My grandmothers were Sunday school teachers. I'm not the best Christian in the world but I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and He died for my sins. If not for my Christian upbringing I would have been either dead or doing life in prison by the age of 25. It's the only thing that kept me from doing real harm to the world.

Then I am definitely a willful sucker.
