Thread: Rene Angelil has died.

I'm sad to hear that Rene has died at the age of 73. I did not know him personally but I knew him from playing at Caesars and Bellagio where he was a gentleman.

When Linda and I were at Celine's New Year's Eve concert the audience applauded when Rene's photo was shown in a video about the family with Celine singing about the joys of family.

He was not a performing super star but he was loved and respected.

Rene used to be a regular in the Bellagio weekly poker tournaments. RIP.

I want to say something else about Rene. He was very modest and humble and never used his position or wealth in an offensive way. He treated the dealers with respect -- and dealers are often abused. He treated other players with respect. He didn't play at private tables -- he played with the rest of us, regular players, on the main casino floor and not in private, VIP areas. He was patient and waited his turn to bet and to throw the dice and was not critical of others -- and in craps it is easy to be critical of players who don't know what they're doing and mess up the procedures of the game. I was really serious when I said he was a gentleman -- he really was. We lost a gentleman -- in the casinos and in the outside world, too.

Most regular Joes wouldn't recognize him anyway.

I think he was one of the most recognizable figures in Las Vegas. Everybody at the tables knew who he was.

On the Celine Dion official website tonight there is a mention of a Celebration of Life for Rene on February 3rd. There is no information about availability to the general public for this event but with more than 4,000 seats I am sure many seats will be available. From the website:

In addition, a Celebration of Life will be held in Las Vegas on February 3, 2016 at the Caesars Palace Colosseum from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
