Thread: Video Poker Note

For those of you hanging out in Las Vegas this week, the Boyd properties are offering a $100 slot dollar bonus on any royals from 25-cent max coin on up. Lower values have smaller bonuses. This lasts until the end of the month.

The Gold Coast has 16/10 NSUD, which returns 99.73%.

Perhaps someone could help out and report what that kind of bonus would add to the 99.73%. If you are a senior, and play on senior days, you accrue various perks that probably make this, as Rob might say, a pseudo-positive play. The five times (or more) points, drawings, and free meals on Wednesdays for seniors are probably the best deal.

I think the senior promotion is discriminatory against women who will never admit to being seniors.

On a 25¢ game making the royal 4400 credits, I get a return of 99.9131%

I notice at Boyd, the sticker they put on your players' card doesn't reference 50+ or anything; it simply says "Young at Heart." That's a bit of genius marketing finesse.

My moment of truth came when McDonald's started giving me senior discounts on coffee without me asking. Bummer.

If on multi-play (especially spin poker), it'll be less than that, as you can only get one $100 bonus per spin. You would maximize your EV on single play $1.25/spin. To play more, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot, since some royals wouldn't get the $100 bonus.

I doubt you'll find NSUD on SP. I know these guys here aren't JoB fans, but does GC still have the 9/6 STP 99.82%?

I have stayed at a Boyd property earlier this month for the 2016 CES convention.

This exact promotion has been going on for three months now and I hope it will continue beyond this month. Before that it was usually get two royal flushes on the same week and earn the exact amount of slot dollars ($2 and up players will see shorted amount $5000 instead of $8000). This is a very good promotion regardless, it does add 0.2% return to most games as jbjb calculated it. If you are in Sapphire tier (25,000 points every 12 months), you get double points every day which makes it even more worthwhile.

The promotion runs Sundays through Wednesdays.

Multi-line games are only eligible for one bonus in case multiple hit.

Their spin poker machines are not great.

You do not get $100 in cash, you get it in slot dollars so you have to run it through once to claim the win end result.

For certain there is no 9/6 Jacks or Better in Super Times Pay as I checked out the STP machines, that game is very much extinct unless you can play it at $10 denomination at San Manuel High Limit in So Cal, there is 8/5 Bonus Poker STP for quarters as an alternative. Instead they do have Multi-strike gimmick of the game that returns 99.79% near the bingo room. if you master the strategy adjustment of prioritizing a winning hand over maximum EV.

    Question:

Do they provide decent freeplay when you run a lot of this play at Boyd properties?

I can't imagine wanting to stay at any of the Boyd properties in Vegas. They are:

    California Hotel and Casino
    Fremont Hotel and Casino
    Main Street Station
    Eldorado Casino
    Gold Coast
    Jokers Wild Casino
Orleans Hotel and Casino and Orleans Arena
Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, Las Vegas
    Suncoast Hotel and Casino

    ----

So what is the best among these? Gold Coast?

Anyway, if they kick out a bunch of freeplay (especially as a new cardholder), this might be worth doing.

Also, I find it funny at places where they consider 50 to be "senior".

I am about to turn 44. I don't look or feel like a senior citizen, but this age-50 requirement would put me just 6 years away.

I think that this "senior at 50" thing is just a marketing gimmick.

The World Series of Poker has a seniors event, also for age 50+. It gets a HUGE turnout, because there are lots of people who play it believing that it will be easy, since it lacks the competition from the tough young players. They also picture the stereotypical really old guy who s really terrible at poker. In reality, you end up at a table where 7 of the 10 players are in their 50s, many of whom are good/competent players. So it's not as good as it appears.

The better event is the Super Seniors, aka the ACTUAL seniors event, where you have to be at least 65.

"I am about to turn 44. I don't look or feel like a senior citizen" You will sonny! Trust me.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

For many years I've considered playing the WSOP Senior event. I didn't know there was an event for 65+ so I will think about that in 2017.

For your purposes of being close to the Rio for the WSOP yes, Gold Coast. Orleans wouldn't be bad either.

The Orleans is generally considered a cut above the Gold Coast, as the Orleans is the younger property and a bit spiffier overall. Since the Gold Coast refurbished most of their rooms, their rooms and Orleans rooms are almost identical. Previously, the Orleans rooms were better looking in general.

I like the rooms at Orleans/Gold Coast. Honestly, they're probably better than rooms at Monte Carlo, and there's not much difference between standard rooms at Mandalay and Orleans rooms. If you're used to posh or suites or whatever, yeah, they may not be your cup of tea, but neither would Monte Carlo or NY/NY be your cup of tea.

The Orleans would probably be considered the nicest of the Boyd properties. Main Street (downtown) has stripped down Holiday-Inn-esque rooms, but I have no issue with that. Fremont (also downtown) has that older downtown feel.

As a point of reference, I spend a lot of time in Las Vegas, and more than half is at the Orleans, Gold Coast, or Rio.

If paying (not comped) and you want economy and a decent room, stay at Boyd. If you want luxury, don't.

Dan, the Suncoast is by far the easiest choice of those properties for staying at because it's in Summerlin, and it's right next door to a 5-Star Marriott.

All those others are dumps or near-dumps located in scrappy to unsavory parts of town. Save them for Redietz--he likes Ellis Island so he'd love these.

RS__, it's amazing how people who don't know much about vp try to look like they do. Anyone who gets roped into any casino to play for a $100 RF bonus would be ecstatic to hit 2 of them on the same draw on a 5 or 10 play machine. And here you are, claiming it isn't "playable" because there's no silly bonus on that 2nd royal....

Absolutely the Suncoast is the best. I've been there for family gatherings. But I think Dan is more concerned with proximity to the WSOP and "commuting" to Summerlin would be a problem after long hours in a tournament.

Rob, just for the record, I've been in Ellis Island twice in my life, and the first time was in December. They have a deal going where if you take coins in, you can exchange them for 10% more in free play, so we took advantage.

Interestingly, Michael Jordan was supposed have bid on the place about 10 years ago, but the deal fell through.

And Rob, you gotta make up your mind here. Sometimes you present yourself as a world weary traveler who can easily handle "scrappy or unsavory." Other times you present yourself as an upscale finesse queen.

You mean they use slots with real coins? Not ticket-in, ticket-out? How many coins did you schlepp in?

  20. #20
No, you dump them in a coin exchange machine and take the ticket to the cashier. If you dumped $100 in coins, you get $110 in free play. The limit in one outing is $400.
