Thread: Super Bowl Props

  1. #1
The Westin released its famous Super Bowl props at 7 PM tonight. They filled nine giant column screens that rotated information since they could post just 150 or so at a time, and they had more than 400.

I was thinking of putting $20 or $30 on the Super Bowl. Any suggestions?

  2. #2
Huh? You need suggestions? I was hoping to read your post for tips on what I can do?

Here's something I always wondered about: US Coins made by the Mint are obverse heavy because of the portrait. If you flip a US coin and let it fall to the ground tails-up will outnumber heads-up. I think it was MIT which confirmed this back in the 1970s or maybe the 1960s.

I never tested the privately minted Super Bowl coin that is used in the flip. I'm not sure if the early Super Bowls used the "private coin" or if they used a US Coin such as a Silver Dollar. Have the coin flips been 50-50 or has heads or tails shown a preference over the years?

I asked the private mint that makes the current Super Bowl coins for their data on the weighting of the coin but never got a response.

The SB coin is specially minted, but some people have speculated that there is usually a bias for tails.

As an AP, I may have to put a few bucks on the coin flip.

The "As an AP" part makes it a non-sequitur....if anything, it's the exact OPPOSITE.

I was just thinking earlier today -- betting on the coin flip in the SB is probably the worst bet you could make, IMO. Reason being - you know beforehand it's a poor wager. At least if you're betting on a safety/no-safety, a streaker runs on the field, a nip-slip mid concert, etc...you don't know the actual odds, but with some research can come up with a good reason to make the bet.

It has been calculated that calling tails every time with a Lincoln head penny gives you a half percent edge.

Laying -102, still at a disadvantage (0.495%) if my math is correct.

  7. #7
RS -- take my word for it. It's an advantage play. PM me if you want the details.

What are the current odds that there's going to be a "wardrobe malfunction" in the half time show?

  9. #9
I did see that mentioned somewhere off shore, Spock, but I will have to backtrack to find it.

Meanwhile, how do you feel about things like:

    1) Phil Mickelson 4th round score -22 1/2 vs. Ted Ginn Jr. Receiving Yards or

    2) Emmanuel Sanders receiving yards -1/2 vs. Rory McIlroy 4th Round Score or

    3) Hofstra 1st half points -13 1/2 vs. Broncos Points.

The Super Book made their prop packets available at 1 PM today. Previously you had to read the 400 props from nine odds boards that rotated because each board could hold only 16 props at a time.

Red maybe you could use that 40 bucks you get from the Ellis Island promo and bet more than that $20-$30 you said you have for Super Bowl betting. Why not go BIG TIME?

Not sure which "AP" the casinos fear more--you....or that nickel keno maniac mickey!

LOL -- Rob, you're such a putz. A predictable putz.

That was a typo in my previous post. I neglected to put a K after the 20 and 30.

Thanks for making my day, buddy. I would hate to have been wrong about you taking the bait.

    You are such a nimrod.

When it was announced it was Coldplay it was probably a real long shot. Now that Beyonce is in the mix it's probably slightly more likely.
