Thread: Massachusetts likely to expand gaming with three Vegas style casinos

Well, add Massachusetts to the list of states that are expanding gaming to raise money for the state government. Here's a link to the GamingWire article as it appeared in Casino City Times, the online publication:

edited to add: I've been reading some other news about the expansion of gaming. Here are two other developments:

    Development #1

The Federal Government has allowed two Indian tribes -- one in Northern California near Sacramento, and one in Central California near Fresno -- to open Indian casinos off reservation lands. The casinos would be within commuting distance to Sacramento and Fresno but far from the Indian reservations themselves.

The Federal Government agreed to the approvals because it would help the tribes deal with economic hardship and the local communities support the casinos to bring jobs. The California Governor and Legislature still must approve the plans.

    Development #2

Gaming insiders are talking about the "super committee" of Congress giving the go-ahead for Internet poker or Internet gaming in the US. The "super committee" was set up to fix the federal budget and there is support for the legalization and regulation and taxation of online gaming as a revenue source for Uncle Sam.

The Vegas casino company most likely to benefit is Caesars Entertainment which owns the World Series of Poker, and already operates Internet gaming sites in Europe -- where it is legal. The Caesars' websites also have free online games which makes it appear it is ready to offer pay online gaming in the United States as soon as it is legal. The WSOP brand would certainly be attractive for an online poker site.
