I thought I would share some highlights from this brief trip.
1) WestGate SuperBook. It is everything the WestGate owner expected it to be. Looks to be the biggest sports book in the world. The giant video screen is bright and sharp and beautiful. The new bar is posh and classy. Up next for remodel is the deli in the back of the room, which has decent food.
2) Buckwheat pancakes in the Palace Station cafe. I probably hadn't had buckwheat pancakes in 30 years -- had forgotten what they tasted like.
3) A 6'5" gentleman in camouflage who took a half dozen steps, charged, and jumped at people outside of one casino. I thought he was yelling, "Pit Boss!" as he did this, but when I walked back the other way and encountered him again, I realized he was yelling "Pissed off!" He did not, by the way, jump and yell at me, for whatever reason.
4) Golden Nugget downtown looks great. Constant remodeling and general redesign has made the place even more the clear class of downtown. It has some brand spanking new machines with video poker variations I have never seen.
5) Wednesday was senior day at Boyd. I put 100 points through the machine, and received a free breakfast and free dinner buffet, plus 5X times points. Thumbs up for the coffee ice cream.
6) Stop in Buffalo Bill's in Primm on the return. Buffalo Bill's has hijacked the furnishings from the Fountainebleau and refurbished a lot of rooms. No more garish cowboys and Indians adorning the walls in bright kindergarten colors. Very different. I salute them.
