Thread: Bellagio car break in

Jason valeted his car at Bellagio. Maybe they didn't lock it. It was ransacked. Ipod stolen. Nothing else appears missing but they went thru all compartments.

Being a veteran of valet parking all over Nv. & elsewhere, I learned long ago that you NEVER leave anything of value in any vehicle you hand your keys over for. Valet clearly states they have zero liability for anything, and you never know if & when a disgruntled or dishonest employee comes along.

Did he file a report with the casino and the police? Not that I think he has a good chance of anything coming of it. If it was a casino employee, Bellagio will probably just say they found nothing wrong. If it was someone else break-in, they'll say they have no responsibility blah blah blah. Best chance is the police.

Thanks for reporting that, Alan. It's an important thing to know. What kind of car was it?

I started a new page on my website about casino problems and complaints and will be following up on the Bellagio problem here:

It was a high end Audi SUV less than six months old. The iPod was not in plain sight.

What did casino security tell Jason?

Shouldn't they be responsible for anything that happens to it when in the valet's care? That's a bit different than self-parking.

No Dan, all valet tickets and/or signs show no responsibility and that valet parking is at your own risk. Filing a police report only helps those who claim a casualty & theft loss on their tax return so they can get audited.

Rob insurance companies require police reports also.

Wasn't the iPod the only item missing, or was there other damage also?

Check is on the way to Jason for the loss. Part of his hotel bill was comped. Casino investigation including review of security tapes. This was a locked, secured area and at least four other cars had various problems.

    Hi Alan:

Can you tell me if the check is enough to pay for a new replacement or did they value Jason's loss at the cost of a used (depreciated) iPod? Some companies like airlines use the depreciated value so when they lose your luggage, they only give you the value of your used clothes which is a fraction of what it would cost to replace those threads.

    Check for full replacement.
