Thread: Warning to Seven Stars: Check that your "free" internet/media is really free!

If you are a Seven Stars and plan to make use of the free internet or movies, make sure to check that there is a "media profile" on your room when you check into a Caesars property.

If they forget to put that media profile on your account, you will get charged, and you may not even know it. It will quietly bill your RCs, and you won't even see it on your final bill at check out.

So when you check in, simply ask, "Is there a media profile on my room?"

If the answer is no, make sure they put it on there!

I mentioned this before. I check my hotel account balance daily -- sometimes several times a day. There have been trips when I had a charge show up on my account for movies or media and I simply called the front desk and it was immediately fixed.

I've never had an instance when Reward Credits were deducted prior to a check out. Any charges are always on the bill till check out time.

If you have a host review your charges and comp things off before you check out - I usually do this the day before - then any charges the host clears out will disappear from your portfolio. They'll take reward credits first and then anything else they're comping, but the charges will disappear. When I checkout, I normally have a balance of zero reward credits and a bill full of tip charges. The only way I know what I actually spent is from what I've seen on the TV and from all the receipts.

You've either gotten lucky, or you just haven't noticed the RCs disappearing.

When RCs disappear, it does NOT show up on the account folio! They just vanish!

This has happened to me several times, as well as to several of my Seven Stars friends.

You are not notified when this happens.

This is why it is imperative to check that you have a media profile on your account when you check in.

Last time I stayed at Caesars (over New Years), they forgot to put one, but I caught it before any damage occurred.

The only time RCs disappear is when I use them. I know this -- I keep track. Being realistic I don't earn many RCs in a trip. On my last trip I earned about $60 in comps. If not for promotions and 7 Stars dinner credits I'd be spending my own cash for just about everything. My RC balance is now about 95 - dollars. I would know if something disappeared.

Then I guess you'r'e just getting really lucky. Either that, or you have zero RCs at checkout time, so it isn't able to debit your RCs.

Trust me when I say that this is still a problem.

It was an even worse problem through 2014, where sometimes the media profile would fall off (or work incorrectly) and you would be charged RCs.

I once had a situation in 2014 where I was selecting the "premium all-property roaming internet" which WAS included in the Seven Stars benefit, but was charging me $35 in RCs every time.

When I noticed RCs vanishing, the hotel denied that they were debiting anything. I went to Total Rewards, and they confirmed that the hotel WAS debiting, but they couldn't see any details. I asked them to call the hotel, and they said they couldn't do that (lol). I went back to the hotel with a paper I had Total Rewards write up for me, and the hotel finally promised to look into it, after still arguing with me that they were "sure Total Rewards was wrong".

I got a call from the manager of Diamond VIP Check-In that indeed I was correct, and that I was being erroneously charged for premium internet. I was given like $75 food credit for all my trouble, and they wiped off the erroneous charges. I was told to stop using the premium all-property internet, and did so, because they weren't sure when it would be fixed.

The next time I came, they had done away with the all-property roaming, and it was just a choice between basic (slow) and premium (fast).

If you are staying in Atlantic City, you will get hit with an annoying $0.98 (7%) tax on the waived $13.99 Basic Internet fee. You must check-out with a front desk agent to get this manually removed; $3.92 will be charged to your credit card if you just drop your key packet in the express check-out box (for a 4 night stay).

This is still happening; last weekend they tried to apply my folio credit to internet. You'd think they would have resolved this by now, to avoid pissing off 7stars with bogus charges?

I'm only Diamond, and visit AC on a weekly basis, never been charged since the new policy went into affect.

Thanks for the advice but to be fair as an entrepreneur I don’t trust “free internet” as It’s very simple to break (lot of breaches). I prefer to use my own spot for internet with Bell virtual private network solution which allows me to share voice, data and video with customers, partners and suppliers when I’m on leave also.

Welcome Pres. Good to have you back.

I always forget to confirm free internet at check-in and it shows up on my tv bill. A quick stop at check-in desk fixes it. Once in a while If I am unable stop at desk it gets charged on my credit card but a phone call quickly refunds the charge.

But YES, you do need to be aware of it as it does not seem to be automatically put on your reservation.

Another thing to be aware of....if you have a folio offer and you have guests in an adjoining room and they are charging to the room, be sure that they charge to YOUR room number, otherwise the charges will go to your credit card and not the folio credit. This happened to me. It was a little bit of a hassle making a phone call after I got home and saw the charges, but they were very friendly and promptly refunded my card.

This happens, or at least has to me, even when the other person is a registered guest in my room. They had to be moved to my name and then they were taken off. Fortunately I saw it before checkout so I didn't have to get a refund.

It's very hard to visualize people who play ten's of thousands or more thru the machines quibbling about a few small charges on their hotel bills. It only makes sense if such people lose too much for justification comfort.

    Alan must be undercomped.

Rob: watch your pennies and the dollars add up.

  16. #16
Alan, when I was 22 the pennies added up. I throw the copper out and have done so since I was 36. It's VERY obvious everyone's nervous or complaining about 10 bucks on their hotel bills because they lose much more than they are comfortable with. I was that way as a losing AP. Since then it has't meant a thing to me because I win far more than any of these type of annoying charges add up to....and doing "Dan Druff" type whining about them only confirms how perennial gambling losers react to peanuts.

Rob, I was getting worried, man. I almost felt obligated to chime in (as you) on this thread. The thread was begging for a Singer Zinger post. I was concerned. But, thankfully, you came through.

Rob was puzzlingly too polite to mention this, but I'll do it for him. Since half the movies that get charged to rooms are porn, CET figures people will occasionally not want to press on about getting their porn charges removed.

Not me, baby. I'd get my charges back, plus leave a review in the check-out box so they can adjust their inventory to my liking.

Rob, you of all people! Are you telling us you would look the other way if a casino company cheated you out of $13.99 a day?

I find those with more assets tend to keep a closer eye on their day to day spending. Those that have less are not likely to know or care where their money is going. Poor money management skills are what eventually leads to bankruptcy.

On my last trip to Caesars, from room service I ordered bacon as a topping for my cheeseburger. The basic burger was one price, cheese was extra and bacon was extra.

The burger arrived without the bacon. I was going to call to room service to ask for a credit but somehow I forgot to do it.

The bacon was $3. They add an automatic tip on top of that. They add an automatic delivery charge on top of that. The missing bacon probably cost me $4.

This wasn't comped, and because I don't earn that much in comps I had to pay that with my credit card.

Honestly, I shouldn't have let it slip but I did. And I am not ashamed to say I wanted a refund on my four bucks.
