My wife has been going to Vegas with me for 35 years. She doesn't gamble at all. But she enjoys walking the strip and going in and out of all the casinos and all the touristy stuff. And of course the pool which, at Caesars, is open in January when we are usually there. At night there is dinner and/or a show. Lucky for me, she has never minded if I am at the craps tables 12-14 hours a day after spending 4 hours in the race book.

However, when I am at the Orleans I tell her to either stay home or I will book her a room at Caesars as there would be nothing for her at the Orleans.

So yes--if you are just going alone and want to play VP, Orleans is probably ok (not for me). But Alan's question, with bringing a date, no way.

I'm only Sapphire, but that will get you a couple of nights at each property every couple of months plus food via comp/cashback. Plus, if you're a senior, you're really not operating at any disadvantage playing video poker if you choose the right days. Not losing and free rooms beats free rooms and losing.

I did learn, the hard way, that just like CET, Boyd does not treat all players at one level nearly the same. Most Sapphire get free video poker tournaments and blackjack tournaments and such, pretty much on a monthly basis. Not me -- I'm categorized as a bad man, I guess, and my offers are limited compared to big net losers.
I don't like how they always jew me on the monthly mailers (free-play & food). I'm not a senior, so I don't qualify for the OPP's (Old Person Perks). I don't care about free rooms especially as a local (I think I get 1 or 2 nights/month? wtf??). I don't like the properties (all of downtown sucks IMO, orleans & gold-cast are meh, I haven't been to suncoast in well over a year). The machines and whatnot don't seem to be organized in a regular way and shit's all spread out and I can't seem to find the machines I tend to prefer to play (denom, # of lines, game type [like JOB, BP, DB, DDB, DW]). Nothing ever struck me as the best game to play (no $1 5-play 9/6 JOB or $5 single play JOB or 8/5 BP...no $0.25 or $0.50 10-play for those games). I think their promotions are stupid (like 10K max base-points on multiplier days). Something just seems really off about the Boyd chain, IMO.

Well, perhaps I meant that I don't like Boyd in LV. If you're a local who wants to break-even on VP then Boyd (or Stations, South Point, and there's another I can never remember) are probably the way to go. But I'm not interested in breaking even or having a tiny advantage.

I didn't know that Boyd was owned by Jews, RS___. I learn something knew every day about casinos and our posters here.

    Hi Alan:

I looked up the Yahoo financials on Boyd Gaming (BYD) and I found the following Key shareholders:

    Name: Boyd.JPG
Views: 379
Size: 29.1 KB

I never thought that "Boyd", "Boughner" or "Smith" were particularly Jewish surnames, but I am not Jewish myself. I will defer to man named Mendelson for such insights, whether as to Jewish surnames or otherwise.

Maybe RS__ should say he doesn't like getting Boyd on the monthly mailers.

Anyone that has negotiated a lower price on an item they are buying has "jewed" the seller. And before anyone assumed anything about me, I have nothing against any particular religion. I think they're ALL bogus.

Unless you qualify for the "Young at Heart" promotion, Boyd isn't a great play. You may get a decent mailer for a while but hit a royal or two and those will disappear. RS__, $5 9/6 JoB is available at both Cal and Sam's Town and 10-play 8/5 bonus is available at MSS, Suncoast, and Orleans.

I agree that the rooms at all properties aren't very nice and most of the restaurants aren't very good.

"Jewed" as a verb was much more common 30 years ago. I haven't heard it much lately. There isn't much negative connotation attached to it in any dictionary definition I could find. It just seems to have been adopted as a quick way to say something that would take a lot of syllables. Sharp negotiating can be disparaged, I guess, but we Germans have a reputation for being tight to the nth degree, and Germans live with it.

I don't use it in polite conversation, but that's just me. I don't think it's particularly nasty.

Dan I am not returning to your forum until the bigots are banned.

I don't use it either. I was just explaining the use.

Well, we'll either have Alan or Rob. Kind of like being between hammer and anvil on this one.

I have found over the years that when you deal with people of mid east descent weather Arab, Persian, Jewish, whatever, you always have to leave bargaining room in your price or offer. It's not about being cheap, it's more about back and forth so each side gives a little to make a deal. Camel trading.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

    Alan's Jewish?

I previously called out the "deceased" Lone Star on his bigotry, and RS and some others are just as bad. Anyone who thinks that using "jewed" as a verb is not derogatory is clearly a bigot. The stereotype that jews are cheap is clearly invoked by that usage and Alan should be pissed. it is no different then using any other stereotype about any religious or ethnic group.

The one exception is that Redietz keeps referring to Rob's big shlong yet we know Rob is not black.

I'm cheap. What's that make me?

I actually spent some time looking this up, as I really hadn't heard it in probably 40 years.

As it turns out, some dictionaries state it is offensive; some don't. The urban dictionaries evidently give it a harsher definition, in that they say it's currently slang for being ripped off or cheated. I grew up with people using the term, and back then while it meant sharp negotiation, it didn't have that flavor of being cheated. It was more like hard bargaining, sometimes beyond what was considered socially acceptable. The ripping off and cheating is new to me, but I'm not up on urban slang.

I was similarly surprised with the opening of the movie Deadpool (the "Merk with the Mouth"). I didn't know Merk was now urban slang for mercenary but with a harsher, nastier Grand Theft Auto definition as opposed to what I think of as the definition of mercenary. Very different.

The urban definition of "jewed" is bad and shouldn't be used. I wonder if referring to an actual mercenary as a "Merk" is now also a really bad insult.

I didn't mean to write something to offend anyone. Just that they give me shitty mailers. My apologies, Alan.

Do "shitty mailers" have to come from Jewish people?

I don't know how you were raised or where you went to school, but I haven't heard the term "jewed" since I was in high school and I graduated in 1970.

    Apologies accepted.

I don't think shitty mailers have to come from only Jewish people.
