Thread: Report of Free Buys Bets at Downtown Grand

  1. #1
A poster in Vegasmessage board reports that Downtown Grand now has a promotion of free buy bets on the 10 and 4 at the craps table. Here is an image that person posted.

If so, there is no house advantage on that bet which makes it unique in Vegas. If someone is stopping by downtown, I would be curious to learn the details.

I wonder if this is a half truth. For those that don't play craps, customarily if you buy the 4 or 10, you pay 5% juice up front. So if you buy the 10 for $100, you throw in $105. Some casinos now collect the juice only if it hits. So you can buy the 10 for $100 and only need to toss in $100. If it hits, you pay the $5.00 vig. If it doesn't hit, you don't owe the extra $5.00. In essence, this makes the Buy bet free-----unless it hits.

Why do you "buy" the 10? The actual odds are 2-1. In craps, they only pay 9-5. If you Buy the 10, you get paid the actual 2-1---less the 5% juice.

There are two Indian casinos in Michigan that have the "free buy on 4 or 10" rule.

I'd be really surprised if the buy 4/10 thing at DTG is a hoax, ie: "It's free [unless it hits!]".

I would guess they probably have some limit on the 4 & 10 free buys, it's only "free" during some promotional period/time, etc.

At Caesars Palace the buy on the 4 and 10 is also "free"... but if it hits you pay a 5% commission (fee, vig).

Several years ago, Caesars required the 5% commission/fee/vig up front, when you placed the bet... in which case the bet was not free.

So... being the reporter that I am I called their craps pit and YES -- THERE IS NO COMMISSION, FEE OR VIG WHEN YOU BOOK THE BET OR WHEN IT IS PAID. However, this is temporary -- probably only during March Madness.

I wonder if they rate you if you place nothing but 10/4 bets at even money.

Even money!? I'd hope they'd be rating you REALLY REALLY WELL if it paid even money!

This post was made in jest, I know what you meant Dan. Hehehe.

Even if they did rate you for 4 & 10 buy action, I couldn't imagine it being worth doing. DTG has been doing poorly, they keep changing everything around, hoping something will work. New promotions must not have worked, changing the pit location must not have worked, giving multiplier days didn't work, changing the pit again didn't work, changing the players club area didn't seem to work, now charging for valet [hoping to get a little extra money] sure as hell ain't working, change the pit AGAIN and still -- the place is dead. Oh yeah, they'll change BJ to 6:5 and cut off 40%, that'll surely work! Uhh, nope!! They used to have tournaments, not any more. They used to give out promo chips, apparently that didn't work so they went to free bets...and now, no idea what's going on. Oh yeah, sure doesn't help you have to go to the player's club desk to get your free-bet voucher printed up, especially since every time the player's club lady can never seem to find the offer on her computer. I think everything about that casino is wrong. They can't seem to get a single damn thing done properly. Add in 9/6 jacks or better (at the $0.25 level, of all things -__- ), maybe that'll work! Idk, but, I haven't been there since very beginning of March. Not much incentive to go back, really.

Had they opened up with a loss rebate promotion, higher denom VP with better pay tables, computers at the player's club center that actually F***** WORKED, good table games (BJ pays 3:2 on all games), and Free-buys on 4 & 10, I think they would have done very well, especially if they threw in some good mailers that would actually give people incentive to come back, and some decent advertising to get people in the damn door!

But hey -- at least I get free parking validation!

    Dan just to be clear:

A $25 buy on the 4 pays $50. At Caesars you'd pay a $1 commission on the win. At Downtown Grand under this promo you save the dollar.

Place bets on the 4,5,6,8,9,10 are not highly rated for comps at any casino.

Does anyone have any information whether the Downtown Grand still is offering free buy bets on the 4 and 10 and what limits it has, if any? Any comp evaluation based on these buy bets?
