Thread: End of an era: Caesars changing all craps tables

  1. #1
Caesars Palace is changing all of its craps tables. The whole table, not just the layout. New, larger tables are expected. Photo of the Palace Tower craps pit may be the last time all of the 50-year old tables are in place. My article: http://alanbestbuys.com/id139.html

Alan, I will read your article. Any quick rationale as to why?

Change is necessary to keep things "fresh" it appears said poster does not like change or maybe his entitlements will be getting cut off soon. One wonders if he really is who he pretends to be or wants to be.

I think it's just that they want fewer, larger tables. The tables now are set up for seven players on each side. That's how many positions they used to have for the Fire Bet when they had the fire bet. Make the tables a little wider and put 8 positions on each side -- two additional players.

Now the math: The Palace Casino has seven tables. At max capacity 7 X 14 players = 98 players.

Now add two additional players to each of SIX tables. 6 X 16 = 96 players.

So what Caesars could do is cut the cost of one table crew of five employees (four dealers includes one dealer who is on rotation plus one floorman) and still have 96 of the maximum 98 players.

Having larger tables (two more players at each table) also means less pressure on Caesars to open an additional table.

Cutting off 5 jobs is hardly a cost cutting move, you are a Shmendrik.

I wouldn't put it past the CET braintrust to have decided cutting five jobs was the way to go.

Isn't that $250-500K/year in total employee cost. Seems like a decent number.

And that is five jobs a shift.

Roe has it right: that's a potential savings of five jobs a shift, and when facing bankruptcy and a slew of creditors, anything will be done to cut jobs. Remember, Caesars is the same casino that eliminated body wash from the hotel rooms to save a buck, and they cut out the three chocolate coins that they put on guest pillows at night, and they took away the robes. So why not cut five jobs per shift? And while they're at it -- they'll cut the five most senior employees who have the most liability for the company.

I haven't seen the new tables yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if they installed "aircraft carriers" like some of the biggest tables at New York, New York.

I was searching the web and saw that some craps tables can fit 20 players -- ten on each side. That would save a lot more employees.

They won't fire these people. They'll just get moved around.

LonestarEight, no matter the name you use, your assholiness shines through.

You've got that wrong. They've been cutting lots of people. When I was at Caesars this past Saturday night one of the dealers was saying good-bye to several other dealers. It was his last night.

When I was playing at a table with some long time dealers there they told me that the pressure is on them to leave.

These dealers were actually saying they hope that Caesars is liquidated because they think they'll have a better chance to keep their jobs if another company operates "the Palace."

I know nothing about craps except that it has some fun phrases, such as coloring up, sevening out, etc.
    But I have am curious.....
When changing the table size, does the "field" size change also? So you would have to throw the dice further? If so, is this an issue?
Or does the "field" size stay the same and just the outer shell is larger? If this, does it it affect the reach for throwing the dice? Or leaning over to place a bet?

Well if that's the case, more than five dealers will get the axe.

    Hi Chimp:

The largest table sizes mean you have to throw farther to hit the end of the table and of course more players can be accommodated at one time. Some people like me prefer the intimacy of a smaller table as opposed to the "aircraft carrier" sized ones for camaraderie purposes. Perhaps a difference is for "dice influencers" who try to set the dice and gently hit the end of the table with the minimum kinetic energy to (hopefully) attain (or avoid) certain numbers. For them, a smaller table is greatly preferable.

Yes. At least five per shift. Three shifts.

Chimp if you're a craps virgin let us know when you will throw the dice the first time. We'll be there.
