Thread: Repercussions of cancelling 7 Stars trip but still using airfare

What happens if you cancel your Diamond 2 or 7 * trip and use only the airfare? Will CET charge you back for the flights?

I do not think CET will do any charge backs or cancel the flight. A couple of years ago I booked an Aspirations 2 flight to my hometown, cancelled my hotel, then flew on that flight. No attempt was made or comment from CET or my host. However, I would not be surprised if I was considered "tripped" for ADT calculations. At any rate, I do not recall the non-use of the hotel or non-gambling on that trip was a terrible hit on my comps. Your ADT mileage may vary.

    You should be fine.

CET is very poor at communicating between departments.

Not only that, but you are unlikely to suffer ADT-wise, because you never set foot on property, nor did you go through with the hotel reservation.

I'd be careful about this. Maybe Caesars was slack before but if they catch it now what happens? Why not stay at the free hotel? You're under no obligation to gamble. And ADT does not impact Seven Stars.

Try it and see--you never know because it's always based on the competency/care factor of the employee-of-the-moment. What's the worse that can happen--you pay for a flight you took?

My guess is that he won't be near the hotel.

    For example, let's say I had friends/relatives in Atlanta. I don't, but let's say I did.

I could set up a Diamond Aspirations trip to Harrah's Cherokee (160 miles from Atlanta) and fly in and out of Atlanta airport.

I would get $750 towards airfare from CET, stay in Atlanta, and cancel my Cherokee reservation, as it's 160 miles out of the way, and I had no plans to go there.

This is different than visiting a place like Vegas where you are right there in town, so there's no harm in staying at the hotel (or at least checking in).

There are many properties where you could take a trip into a heavily-used, major airport and yet not be too close to the associated property.

For Atlantic City, you could fly into Philadelphia or NYC.

For Rincon, you could fly into LAX.

For Tahoe, you could (probably) fly into San Francisco (not 100% but I bet you could talk them into it).

There's little chance they will back-charge you for the flight. The most likely consequence would be charging for the hotel room, and the second most likely consequence would be some kind of Total Rewards consequence, like getting kicked out of the program. In fact, they have no way to back charge you, because they won't have a method of payment.

But I don't think either would happen. I have heard of people doing this for years and nothing happening, though I've never done it myself.

Technically they are better off when this happens, versus you actually staying and not playing at the property (which happens a lot, actually).

Furthermore, I have not seen anything in the official Total Rewards rules against doing this (though I admit they probably wouldn't be thrilled if you did and they found out). It just seems like they're not concerned with this.

With rumors that Caesars will be liquidated and Total Rewards decimated it might not be a bad idea to squeeze out every nickel you can while you can.

I remember my host at Caesars telling me to go to the gift shop and buy about $1500 of stuff using comps just before Caesars was bought by Harrahs. At the time he said get what you can while you can.

The same advice might apply today.

You are correct. I want to fly into LAX but had no intention to visit Rincon.

I had to cancel my annual trip due to multiple family emergencies. Because I booked a Southwest flight with "Wanna Get Away" fare, I didn't lose the amount of airfare that was paid by CET. The funds are simply held by Southwest for my future use, which means I can apply it to any Southwest flight.
