Thread: Help with reaching diamond status

  1. #1
I don't live near a TR casino so my only chance to boost my points is when I go to LV to NO. I want to take advantage of the Spring tier bonus credit that is ongoing until the end of June. The last time I went to NO, I kept a pretty good track of how many points I would accumulate. I play at the $15 craps table and would average about $100 between my pass line odds and place bets. I would also press quite agressively. I would cash out after 2 hours, check my points as they use a computer to enter your buy-in and average bets and close your account when you cash out. After about two hours of cashing out my tier points would only rise about 200 points. I did this multiple times and similar points were given to me. One day I would accumulate 500 points and receive 125 point bonus. Other days I could only get 300 points. The problem is that the volatility of the table can run through my $600 buy in quickly. I burned $2000 for three days and all I have to show for it is 1300 points. I am currently at 7200 points. At the rate I'm going, it would be better not to even try for diamond status. Hind sight tells me that if I were to put that money in slots I would have likely earned 2500 points in one day and the 5000 tier bonus. Do you guys have any suggestions? I don't have 7 stars aspirations, just diamond is fine.

I think Mlife will rate your craps play better.

Don't bother trying to earn Diamond with craps or any other pit game. Too expensive.

You need to do it with video poker.

Earn 2500 points in one day, and you will be diamond by July 15th (when they credit the bonus tiers in the spring promo).

If you want diamond sooner you will need just 300 more tier credits anyway, after playing the 2500 tiers in one day and getting the 5000 bonus tiers.

BTW, be aware that becoming diamond will NOT increase your offers, freeplay, or free rooms. It will just give you the guaranteed benefits outlined on the Total Rewards site.

    Good luck.

I agree with Dan: it's very tough to get any significant amount of tier points with any table game. I've played craps at Caesars Palace with an average bet in the range of $235 for four to six hours and found I "earned" only a couple hundred tier points.

Depends. Could you spread 1-3 light green in Spanish 21 with no heat and earn Diamond that way? Sure, you'll get around 200 TCs/hour towards a daily TC bonus, and it costs you nothing in EV.

    ---

whodat, I would say go for the Diamond card. You're only 2,800 TC away (assuming you get the full Spring Tier Bonus), and if you can earn the 1,000 daily TC bonus, that will help a lot.

With a $600 daily gaming budget, the full-pay Louisiana video poker Dan Druff listed aren't really applicable. If you can find a triple-play quarter machine at Harrah's NOLA returning 97%+, you can earn the 1,000 daily tier credits, then cash out and go play craps.

If you play roulette, you will earn the most tier points playing Rapid Roulette (if NO still has it). A $20 average bet equals approximately 125 tier credits per hour. This is what I did last week with $300 buy-ins each day.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have never played video poker before and would definitely give this a shot.
Dan, those postings are extremely informative. I have already bookmarked the link so I can study it at leisure.
Nerakil, I have never played Spanish 21 and don't even know where the games are located. How is it compared to regular BJ in terms of HA?
Alan, The problem is that I love craps. It is so exciting compared to most other games.

I live in Houston so Bossier City is probably the closest destination (for a drive). Does anyone play VP at L'auberge? I want to try it there as well.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately you shouldn't just try video poker. Learn the games before you play. Practice at home.

Yes you can reach 7 Stars at craps but you'll have to bet heavily.

Hi whodat, the Spanish 21 comment was in response to Dan Druff. I don't recommend playing any table games to earn tier points. However, Spanish 21 is usually the best game in a casino to play recreationally, with a house edge of 0.39%.

Forum member seemoreroyals is a veteran VP player and his home property is Horseshoe Casino Bossier City. He can probably direct you to the best low stakes VP machines (if he reads this thread).

    Nerakil,

I did not realize that Spanish 21 has a lower HE than regular BJ without counting cards.

    Alan,
If I go the VP route, I would only concentrate on one game that is listed on Dan's link.

Even though the HE is small for VP, what is the most that you guys have lost on VP in a day trying to go to diamond or 7 stars?
BTW, I allotted myself $600 for a crap session slot but would be ok with losing more (I have lost > $1K in a day).

I would suggest going to Bossier City and playing the 99.54% 9-6 Jacks or Better machine, at $1/credit. Make sure to show up during the day, as it will likely take you 10 hours (or more, since you're a novice player and won't be playing too fast). You need to earn 2500 tier credits, which means it will take 5000 hands.

These machines are on the first deck by the men's room. Make sure it's Jacks or Better, and that it pays 9 for the full house and 6 for the flush.

While it is possible you will lose more than $1,000 doing this, your expected loss (for perfect play) is only $115, and your chances of losing more than $1,000 aren't that high (but again, it wouldn't be a fluke if you did).

This game also has among the least variance of video poker games.

The strategy for it is here: http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-...r/9-6/optimal/

Print that out and take it with you. You can go to videopoker.com and practice at home beforehand, for free. Sign up for the site, log in, and then go here: http://www.videopoker.com/play_games/ ... Click "Classic Single Hand" and go to Jacks or Better.

Thanks Dan. I will try to get there before the June 30th date.
