Thread: Caesars Palace announces 50th Anniversary Event in August

Weekend event invitations went out. They are promising "living legends" to show up but no details.

I am sure Celine will be part of the entertainment. I wonder if they might get Muhammad Ali to show up?

www.caesarscasino.vegas I wrote an article about it.

I read your article. I'm from NJ, so I try to keep up with David Copperfield.

He would have been 10 years old when Caesars Palace opened 50 years ago.

How soon after Andy Williams opened the joint did DC perform there?

Copperfield was one of the "legends" that has played there. I don't think he's been at Caesars in more than 20 years.

Probably won't be able to get Sinatra

My very first visit to Vegas.... We stayed at the current Ballys and Sinatra was playing at Caesars. My friends didn't want to go. I pleaded. No, they said. Didn't go. One of my biggest regrets.

Years later Sinatra was supposed to sing at the Greek Theater here in LA. I bought tickets early. I was working for KCAL then and got seats fifth row, center. Then he got sick and show was cancelled.

When I was in high school in upstate New York, I worked part time at a radio station (WRKL) which was used as a "test station" for various record labels. We had Sinatra's albums first -- this was back in the 60s. Steve Possel (he's still there) was the first DJ in the country to play Sinatra's new stuff.

Sinatra came to the Paramount Theater here in Chicago (Aurora to be exact) when he was half dead. In the middle of a song he started singing the lyrics to a different song. He stopped and said I got a little lost. Then went back to the appropriate song. Still was worth seeing him.

I saw him in LV maybe 20 years ago. I'd go see him again if they dug him up.

I have a friend who sang backup for Sinatra many, many years ago. I never asked him if that was in the studio or live, but I'll inquire next time I see him. I never saw Sinatra live, which is a real shame.
