Apparently the above e-mail went out to players at Harrah's Rincon (aka Harrah's Resort Southern CA), but people were confused that there was no offer code.

Turned out that the offer was sent out "in error", and there actually was no complimentary offer.

Finally they sent out a correction, with an insulting offer to purchase the tickets for $85 each. What a fail!

    Hi Dan:

I think it is even worse. "Tickets start at $85." That means nose bleed seats. Usually when tickets are comped, they are one of the better seats so the purported comped offer should have been more than nose bleed. So the cost of the tickets "mistakenly" offered for free would be more than $85.

I may not be one of the highest Seven Stars at Rincon (well over 300,000 TS last year and on track to do the same this year), but I'm Glad to see I wasn't the only one who received these two emails.

I was dropped from their mailing list about a year ago.

Do you think it was something more than an error?

I don't believe it was an error.

What error could it have possibly been? If they were comping the wrong show, the update would have said, "We meant to have such-and-such show instead of Steve Martin", but it just claimed the computer went "haywire".

    Yeah right.

I think the only "mistake" might have been sending out the offer without any kind of booking code. By the time they realized it, they probably noticed that the show was selling way better than expected, and then claimed the whole thing was a computer error.

Even if it was an error, it's extremely tacky to offer comp tickets and then rescind them. It's not like they mistakenly offered something worth $20,000 and had to correct something which would financially ruin them. The value of these comp tickets is low enough to where they should have just eaten the mistake, and hoped they would recoup it through the play of the people coming out to see the show.

Dan if it wasn't an error then was it done to torment hundreds of regular players?

Get real. Somebody goofed. Maybe it was the printer? Maybe it was an intern? Maybe a secretary sent the wrong artwork to the printer. Errors happen.

    It wasn't done maliciously.

I think they offered it initially, didn't include an offer code by accident, and then noticed that it was selling better than expected, so they pulled back the whole thing.

Again, either way, they should honor it. It looks really tacky not to.

As everyone knows, I have no love for the management at Rincon. But I can understand how errors can happen. I doubt a computer made the error but that doesn't matter. There was a goof. They sent out a correction. It appears they collected no money from any patron so no harm was done to anyone.
