Thread: MGM introduces easyPLAY - The First real money slot tournaments played on mobile devices

  1. #1
Today, MGM Resorts just took their slot/bingo/video poker tournaments to a whole new level. They've launched easyPLAY which is developed by oneLive that will allow qualified Mlife players (maybe non member guests?) to participate in the tournaments directly from their mobile device, laptops, or kiosks (on the casino floor) while they are at one of the 9 MGM strip properties. The prizes are for real money too. No more having to wait in long lines and having to button mash the spin button on slots or the deal/draw button on VP.

I suppose the Location (GPS) setting has to be enabled on the mobile device, tablet, or laptop to get by the checks required by the Nevada Gaming Regulations.

All tournament play must be conducted onsite using the resort Wi-Fi at either Bellagio®, ARIA®, MGM Grand®, Mandalay Bay®, The Mirage®, Monte Carlo™, New York-New York®, Luxor® or Excalibur® (“Participating Resorts”).

First Paragraph of the Press Release

LAS VEGAS, July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) has launched a mobile gaming platform, easyPLAY® Mobile Tournaments, the first digital and interactive tournament to be offered by a regulated casino in the United States. Developed by mobile gaming tech company oneLIVE inc, the platform allows guests at nine iconic Las Vegas resorts to compete with other players in a variety of tournament games using their own mobile devices whether they are at the pool, sipping cocktails at the bar, or simply relaxing in their rooms.

Thanks for posting. I'm not surprised. Technology is allowing portable gaming not only on casino properties but even within state boundaries such as with Caesars poker.

MGM gets more players and next step is regular cash play -- you'll load your credits at the cage.

If you have to be in property maybe you have to be on the Wifi and they use network addresses to verify your location. GPS can be spoofed.

Sometimes they use cell phone tower location technology, which cannot be spoofed.

As Roe said, GPS is useless because it is easily spoofed on phones (I do it all the time to watch the Dodgers when using the MLB app).

They usually use the IP address to identify you. If it detects a Nevada cable company IP, or a cell phone IP associated with towers in Nevada, they allow you to continue.

This can't be spoofed, but technically you could get around it by connecting through VPNs or other computers located in Nevada. I wouldn't bother to risk it, though.

Not very exciting news....except for gambling addicts maybe. Why anyone would want to do this or try to do it by spoofing whatever, is a minor mystery.

This happened to me when I returned to Caesars to check out that door a second time. I was not a registered guest. But when I looked at my phone I found I was logged on to the Wifi. The way to log on to the Wifi is to enter your room number and last name. It appears I was not cut off from the Wifi after I checked out on my previous trip.

Normally I don't use Wifi connections but on my previous trip I had to use the Wife because I was uploading videos to YouTube (it was the weekend I was injured) and their Wifi was faster than my regular phone service.

I mention this because it's possible that other casinos might also have the same glitch: you remain on their Wifi. Perhaps one visit to an MGM casino might give you permanent access?

You don't get knocked off their Wifi at checkout.

You are given the Wifi for 24 hours after you sign in to it. The time you check out is irrelevant.

I'm not sure how you maintained access when you returned days (or weeks?) later.

Did you actually try to browse the internet on it? Your phone will automatically connect to router, but won't work for browsing the internet until you log in.

If it still worked, it was some kind of glitch.

Maybe Alan is being tracked with wifi while at Caesars Palace since his door accident there. Don't think the auto-wifi is a glitch and maybe surveillance wants to keep an eye on him. Some people like to freeroll casinos with "accidents" and maybe Alan has been flagged for observation to protect their investment.
