Thread: Caesars properties employees are still clueless regarding Seven Stars internet policy in 2016

  1. #1
Many of you are probably aware of the "new" media policy for Caesars properties, effective 1/1/16.

Starting this year, Caesars changed its "free media for Seven Stars" policy to include internet for 2 devices only, plus one free movie per day. Before 2016, the policy was variable among properties, but mostly was player-friendly, typically including unlimited internet and unlimited movies.

Properties not owned by Caesars, such as Harrah's Resort SoCal/Rincon, Harrah's Cherokee, Harrah's Ak-Chin, and others are exempt from this requirement.

But back to the CET-owned properties.

You get 2 devices per day... but what kind of internet? Basic? Premium?

That is not stated anywhere, and no one knows.

I have gone round and round with numerous Caesars employees in Vegas (at both Caesars Palace and Rio), and no one knows.

Everyone agrees it's 2 devices, but most believe it only covers basic, with the premium (faster) internet causing an upcharge. However, when pressed on this, these employees admit they are just guessing.

Upon my own experimentation and research, I found that, premium internet is included in the Seven Stars media package in Vegas.

I went to Tahoe and asked the same thing. I was given 3 different answers. At check-in, I was told that it was 2 devices of any kind of internet. When I called to verify, I was told that it was UNLIMITED devices of any kind of internet. When I called VIP, I was told by both the employee and her manager that it's only 2 devices of basic (slow) internet, and that premium gets an upcharge.

However, after further research, I found that the premium internet appears in a "Seven Stars special folio" which gets charged to Total Rewards (the program itself, NOT your player account) -- meaning it's included for the Seven Stars guest, and does not charge him/her anything.

Once again, CET employees have no clue regarding their company's own policies, and admit they are not 100% sure when pressed regarding how they came to the answer they gave you.

Anyway, unless they change it, I believe that you CAN use premium internet at CET-owned properties if you're a Seven Stars, but only get 2 devices per day.

I am also afraid to bring this to upper management's attention (or even send it to a well-read newsletter like Seven Stars Insider), because I believe this Premium thing might be an oversight.

So I think it's better to just inform everyone here and hope it doesn't change.

I don't know what the heck I get or what I'm using but I never had a problem.

    Hi Dan:

As to the "one free movie per day" it has been my experience that it is one purchase per 24 hour day. So if I check in on a Friday night, I will start a movie before midnight. I then have 24 hours to watch it. This means I can start another movie on Saturday and watch a third on Sunday before I check out. So If one is so inclined you can watch 3 movies over a 2 night visit.

    FAB

I don't know if this slipped thru but I have watched two movies, back to back, and was not charged for the second movie.

On other trips, Ive watched three movies in one day but had a three day trip, so my average was one movie per day. All were free.

The worst case: you pay the $14 or whatever it is from your comp dollars.

Dan why don't you just get yourself a hotspot and it'll save you from getting irritated by having to talk to casino employees about something so frivolous.

I can tether my phone, but I don't have unlimited data, so that's not a viable solution for anything but short bursts of time.

I have unlimited talk and text and data with T Mobile for $40 a month.

That would be "a lot" of talk. Interesting how we, as consumers, have been conditioned to "think" we get stuff for free, and all out of the inventive kindness of some stranger's heart.

P.S. And how the AP/SP's have their own such rationales.

I'm not getting anything free. The plan I am on is $40 per month for unlimited talk and text. I have to pay that $40.

I also have a grandfathered-in unlimited data plan with Verizon, but I read where that may end soon. We travel a lot and it's 100% for pleasure, so hassle-free internet availability, while important to us, isn't absolutely imperative. If the price goes up however, I'll pay it. If I needed it for my work or livelihood, I'd get the best data plan out there and pay for it in a heartbeat.

Not all unlimited talk, text, data are completely "unlimited." Many are "up to" a certain gig amount. I pay $60 a month and is completely unlimited.

Right, you are. I have a couple of cheap cell phones in the corner from Telus formerly Public Mobile for $19 a month each.

Low-tech solutions as far as possible. The answer is usually the most-complicated thing thought of.

Tethering to cell phone data is not always a viable solution, even with unlimited data.

Some casinos are located in areas with poor cell reception, and sometimes you also get poor reception (or no reception) due to the construction materials of the high rise hotel.

BTW, I once had an "unlimited" data plan with AT&T but they started throttling me down to really low speeds once I exceeded 2 gigabytes!

I dropped that plan. Turned out they paid a massive fine to the FTC for this, but they are still doing the throttling, as far as I've heard.

BTW, T-Mobile sucks. They seem fine util you have a customer service issue with them, and then they become a nightmare. Also their coverage area is pretty crappy.

I've been to all parts of the country in the last 5 years and in hundreds of hotel rooms. Never had any weak signal issues on my or my wife's laptops with my phone's hot spot from Verizon.

About two months ago I was at Bellagio and their WiFi was down the entire weekend. I used my T-Mobile phone with no problems.

Either you're only traveling where there's strong cell reception, or this isn't true.

Or you've just needed a marginal connection to where you can quickly check e-mail.

It is simply not a reliable solution to use cell data as a travel solution for internet, unless you are only using it sparingly.

I have for many years used my cell phone (ATT-unlimited everything) rather than any business or public wifi's for all of my horse racing contests, information, wagering, etc. Often I will have 5 or 6 websites up and running at once and burning up the gigs. However, it does not work at Keenland race track, The Orleans convention rooms, and works only intermittently at the TI. Note that their respective wifi's don't work any better.

With your cell phone you have some degree of better security than with a public network.

Regnis raises an excellent point about security.
