Thread: Trip report: Caesars Palace 50th Anniversary Dinner Event

Without a doubt the best dinner event I ever attended at Caesars and the food was actually excellent... for a change. See: http://alanbestbuys.com/id429.html Photos included.

Alan, do you happen to know if there's anything anniversary-related to check out at Caesars this week? I'll be heading there tomorrow. I see where Cleopatra's Barge will be closing -- if it's still open, I'd like to sit there for a spell. Anything else?

I'm sad Starbucks took over the coffee shop next to the food court. I don't know anywhere to get the little Caesars head coffee stirrers. They were one of my favorite things in Las Vegas. Has anyone seen them elsewhere in Caesars Palace?

You might have seen on the same page on my website that Caesars has a "walking tour" pointing out historical points about Caesars. There are also exhibits with photos and so forth. But the "events" are over.

If you are there, try to pick up a room key card for the 50th anniversary. I didn't get one and didn't know about them till I saw they were being offered on eBay.

There are special chips for the 50th anniversary if you are a chip collector.

I also hate to see the barge closing. A lot of time and memories there.

Quick note on Starbucks---the ones at caesars jack up the prices much more than others do. Even the one at Planet Hollywood is much less than at caesars so if you don't mind the short walk you can save a couple bucks. Does that make me an "ACP" (advantage coffee player)?

Thanks, regnis. The prices in that Starbucks are brutal. The prices before it became Starbucks were bad, but I sucked it up because they had great raspberry danishes and the coffee stirrers. Now the danishes are gone and it's a Starbucks menu, so screw them -- I'll get my coffee over at Ho. If I'm desperate for danish, I'll hit up the pastry shop in Paris. It'll cost a fortune, but it'll be better than Starbucks.

I will do that walking tour, Alan. Thanks for the tip.

I don't think Cleo's Barge is closing. What's been announced is that the Goss show is being shut down. He even joked about it on stage when Caesars was giving him an "Icon" award. Imagine that -- an Icon is having his show closed.

Interesting footnote. When I was waiting for my car at the Augustus valet, I saw a Rolls with the license plate "Gossy" parked near the door. I thought it might be Goss' car -- and it was. A couple of minutes later he walked out of the hotel and got in it.

What I thought was curious is that he had GOSSY on the license plates. This celeb had no interest in being private. He had his name on his Rolls.

I always found Goss' presence at Cleopatra's Barge to be odd.

Doesn't surprise me that it's coming to an end.

Instead of being a bar with a band, they turned the Cleo's Barge into a mini showroom for Goss. I never went to the show. They could easily turn it back into another bar with band, or maybe bring in another act. Remember, it's a small venue. Maybe a comedy club which would fit the size.

I read somewhere (LVA maybe) that it is being turned into a nightclub. Not sure if that will be with or without the barge.

Alan, how did the gambling go? Hit the All again at Ceasars?

I hit the TALL twice, while shooting. But I was betting the Small, Tall, All when a shooter hit the ALL. Ironically, he was a DON'T shooter. He made two passes during his roll and lost money, obviously, not only on the Don't Pass bets but all his continuous Don't Come bets. When he started his hand he had a rack full of green and about five hundred in black -- and lost almost half of it.

I played a limited amount of video poker and hit AAAA on $5 Bonus which gave me a small gain on the video poker play. But because of the activities I didnt gamble much. My play was overnight Friday after I arrived. I never went near the casino on Saturday or Saturday night because the casino was mobbed. I couldnt have gotten a spot at a craps table.

Saturday night after the event I did the High Roller with a friend and since my friend hadn't been in Vegas in many years we walked thru the Linq, Bellagio and Paris. We left Paris when the fire alarm went off. Of course we were the only ones, but my friend was nervous and I told my friend about the fire at Caesars when everyone ignored the fire alarm until the casino got smokey.
