Thread: Odds of getting hit by the falling satellite vs. hitting a royal flush.

So your chance of hitting a royal flush on video poker when you push the button ranges from about 1 in 40,000 to about 1 in 48,000.

But according to NASA you are more likely to get hit from a piece of that falling UARS satellite that is crashing to earth.

    Says NASA:

Estimated human casualty risk (updated to 2011): ~ 1 in 3200

So, is it safer to be outside or in a casino?

Alan, once again your math is suspect. The odds are 1 in 3200 of a human getting hit. The odds of you (or me) specifically getting hit are in the trillions. Just multiply 3200 by the almost 7 billion people on the planet.

If you want to calculate the odds of a human hitting a RF on a particular 3 day period the result would be very, every close to 1.

Thanks Arc. I knew you would "get" the joke.

But the more important question is: what are the odds of getting hit by a NASA satellite at the moment you hit a royal?

I was reading up on government policy and I found out that it is illegal to keep any parts of a satellite that you might come across. It's government property, you know.

This is the latest evidence that the government claims everything.

And now we know that getting hit by a satellite, and hitting a royal have the same result: NASA wants the satellite, and the IRS wants the royal.
