Thread: big craps roll

  1. #1
Last night, at one of our local casinos, I had the pleasure of participating in a roll of 1 hour and 58 minutes. I was not the shooter. While this is a really long roll, and longer than any of my great rolls, the actual number of throws during the roll was only 78. In Vegas, with better dealers, a 2 hour roll would have at least double the throws (barring a 7-out).

Because of the slow dealers (and players), it really was more like a 50 minute to an hour hand. So I made a good amount of $ but not what you would otherwise expect from a 2 hour hand.

The time of the roll and number of throws were confirmed by one player who claims to count and time and by the floor man. I did not time or count.

This is the first time I have played craps since January as I no longer play outside of vegas or AC. But I was entertaining clients in town that wanted to go to the casino. Lucky for me, they were off playing BJ somewhere so I could really bet.

Wow, I wish I had been there.

As the number of rolls in a shooter's hand grows, it is not unusual for the number of rolls per minute (or per hour) to decrease dramatically. This is because more bets are being made, and there are bigger payouts, and players are pressing or regressing certain numbers.

Even in Vegas after a 30 minute roll it is not unusual to have the next roll come after a minute or even two minutes of betting and players changing their bets.

I recall one time when after about 40 minutes it took almost five minutes for the table to get another roll because so many players were making bets, changing bets, and changing them again.

If you get two rolls per minute at a crowded table it would not be considered unusual.

If you had 78 counted rolls even in Vegas with experienced dealers that "hand" would have been about an hour and 20 minutes. That the roll took an extra 38 minutes in your casino is not surprising.

Was there an Small Tall All or a Firebet?

Congrats, regnis. Those long rolls must be intense, surreal experiences. Not being a craps player, I've never experienced anything like that.

Fire bet was hit. But not by me. I didn't bet it.

There is nothing like it anywhere else in gambling Red. Even "The Drive" only lasted 5 minutes. Imagine that high for 2 hours.

    Hi Regnis:

Don't tease us. At least tell us if you doubled, tripled or whatever the size of your buy-in in this circumstance where you "could really bet."

I don't know what regnis did but if it were me, after the first 10 rolls, I would at least double all of my place bets and then press every other bet. If I started with $54 across ($10 table, not including pass line and odds) my ESTIMATE is that after 10 rolls I would have a profit in the rail of about $150, after 20 rolls my profit would be close to $400, after 30 rolls $600, after 40 rolls $1,000 and after 50 rolls $1300, and after 60 rolls $1700, and after 70 rolls $3,000. That's starting with $54 across and again not including pass line with odds.

I would have also had $10 on the Fire which would have paid $10,000.

If I started with $135 across ($25 table) my profit would have been over $7,000.

The best I ever did at a craps table was on a $10 table starting with $52/54 across (don't remember) and colored up a little more than $5,000 on a hand that lasted a little more than one hour. No fire bet back then.

FAB--I never go into a lot of detail about my wins, as I also can have pretty big losses. I am a very aggressive player in craps and horses. My initial bet is to place the point for $150. I also place (or buy) 2 other numbers--the 10 for $200 and an inside number for $150. I make a hard 10 for $50 and any other even number that I have I bet hard for $25. I did hit one $50 hard way parlay on the 6. I only tried 2 parlays.

I double every other hit. Not sure if I went same bet and then double or vice versa. If it comes hard, I might skip a same bet and double again. I continually increase the hard ways as my place bets increase. After 2 hits on a number. I switch to put bets as we have 100x odds and the bets can therefore stay up and be increased. I don't like come bets for that very reason--you only get paid on every other. After a while, I put all of the numbers and press them in the same manner.

All in all, it was a fairly nice win but far from my best. There weren't enough 10's for me. I'll let you do the math.

I am not there to grind out a few hundred. I get bored. I go for the kill and either win big or lose. Since I hadn't played in so long I was a little over aggressive which was just plain good luck in this case.

Reg... you are aggressive. Very aggressive. And by your description you do either win big or lose big. Wow.

I concur with Alan. Regnis, you press a lot more than I do. I am glad it worked for you this week.

    Way to whack them, regnis!

Apparently he likes to Go big or go home.

I don't recommend this style of play for the faint of heart. I also should point out that this method was developed to take advantage of my own rolls when I was a controlled shooter. I was (and am) much more cautious with other shooters, and will pass on many. The other night, every shooter was making numbers and so I just rode the wave.

The roll was 2 hours and I was there for 2 hours and 35 minutes. Again, I don't go there to beat my brains in for 10 hours to grind out a few bucks or more likely lose.

Regnis: When you said you place the ten and one inside number in addition to the point I thought it might have to do with DI and the results you've seen. But to use that strategy with random shooters? Why not just bet the inside numbers and hope for the best?

That's a good question Alan. When I was in my shooting prime, I rolled 10's and 8's, and some 9's. I usually don't bet 10 on other shooters. However, I am not a 6-8 guy. It's too hard to make money on the 6 and 8.

The other night it did hurt me as there were only a couple 10's in that roll.

As I have said many times, I no longer can have any amount of dice control as I don't play any more. But when I got the dice, I hopped the hard 10 for $10 as I always have when I roll. . I rolled hard 10. Pressed it to $100 and came right back hard 10. Rolled only about 10 minutes total and no more 10's. Chalking that up to pure luck--not DI.
